The 'Like' button has disappeared!

  • Unknown's avatar

I can’t find the option to ‘like’ any post from my account on any other blog.
I have tried refreshing the webpages and browser but it just doesn’t appear! Help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Unknown's avatar

The like button appears at the bottom of every post. Example http://randomlyabstract.wordpress.com/2014/10/02/first-birthday/

The WordPress.com like button, like every other in-house use only like button (example: Facebook) can only be used by those who have registered WordPress.com/Garvatar username accounts when they are logged in to WordPress.com.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I tried following the steps you’ve mentioned above, but the problem persists.
I am using Mozilla Firefox (it is listed at browsehappy.com) on a PC right now. It’s an updated version plus I’ve cleared the caches. But I can still not find the ‘like’ button on any blog. It shows ‘loading’ at the page’s bottom but never does.

However, when I logged in from a tablet using Google Chrome, it worked fine. So maybe the problem is only with the browser? Is there some other way of solving this issue if I want to stay with Firefox?

    Please let me know! Thanks!

Oh okay! I’ll wait. Thank you!

    Hi @randomlyabstract,

I know Timethief already mentioned this, but can you be sure that you have third-party cookies enabled? In Firefox, this setting can be found under Preferences -> Privacy.

The Like button is loading correctly for me in the latest version of Firefox, so I’m thinking this is most likely the result of a setting within your specific browser.

Yes, I just rechecked. Third-party cookies are enabled and set to ‘accept always’. It still doesn’t load.

It was working just fine until last month…

    Hi there,

Do you have any add-ons or extensions installed in Firefox? Sometimes a browser extension can block things like the “Like” button from loading.

Please follow the Firefox guide to disable add-ons to temporarily disable any add-ons in your browser. Then, see if the “Like” button loads for you. If it does, you can enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that’s blocking the “Like” button.

Please let me know how that goes!

Hey, I just disabled all add-ons. Still doesn’t load.

I can’t find the option to ‘like’ any post from my account on any other blog

Likes are only available in single post view. You won’t see it on front pages. Also, not all users have “likes” enabled in their site’s sharing settings. If they haven’t enabled it, you won’t see the Like button on single post view either.

I am using Mozilla Firefox (it is listed at browsehappy.com) on a PC right now. It’s an updated version plus I’ve cleared the caches. But I can still not find the ‘like’ button on any blog. It shows ‘loading’ at the page’s bottom but never does

Are there specific sites you are having trouble with? A link to those would certainly help.

I’ve been using WordPress for more than four years now. There was no issue with the ‘like button’ until last month.
I know likes are available mostly in single post view. But it doesn’t load anywhere.
There ain’t any specific site that I’m having problems with. I can’t like any post on any WordPress site (except if I see it on my reader).

Thanks for checking those add-ons. Next up, can you please check to make sure Javascript is enabled? You can check that here: http://supportdetails.com/

If Javascript is enabled and it’s still not loading, can you please also check to see if you have antivirus or firewall software installed on your computer that might be interfering?

  • Unknown's avatar
    randomlyabstract · Member ·

    Javascript is enabled.
Yes, I have Avira anti-virus running on my computer but it hasn’t interfered with this ever before. What else can be done? (Also, thank you so much for your help and support!)

  • Unknown's avatar

If you turn off Avira temporarily does that make a difference for you? I just want to make sure Avira isn’t the cause before moving on to other possible causes. (It’s always possible an update or change with antivirus/firewall software could cause this kind of issue, since sometimes those programs block certain scripts from running in your browser.)

IT WORKED! THE LIKE BUTTON LOADS NOW!

(I believe the issue was with the add-ons, disabling which, took effect eventually…)
Thank you very much for your help, awesome people. :)
