Earlier today i could not access my blog, i was told to change the name servers, but it still says that my blog cannot be accessed, and now i keep being re-directed to my old blog with an old format. I paid a lot of money to have a customised theme, to be self-hosted and bought my own domain name. Now nothing seems to be working, I really don’t know how this happened, and I am trying to sort out working alongside a few bloggers, this opportunity is so important and its been ruined by the fact that my blog for some unknown reason just stopped working. Please help!!!!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

DNS changes take time to propagate, so it could just be a timing thing. In my experience, a change to DNS usually takes anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours. It really all depends on how fast the DNS change is pushed out by your domain provider combined with how fast it is picked up by the internet service provider at your location—so there’s not a way to put an exact number on it.

You entered “newgirlontheblog.me” as the domain when you created this help request. Is that the domain you changed the name servers for? If yes, then can you confirm that the steps on this page are the exact steps you followed?

If the steps in the link above are the ones you followed, how long ago did you make the change?

    Hello,

Yes well I used to have a wordpress blog the name was newgirlonthebloguk.wordpress.com, it had a standard wordpress theme and if you googled this you would find the old blog. But in March I updated my site with pipdig a template provider, i changed to a self-hosted wordpress site, through kualo, pipdig did all the transferring of documents for me. I also bought the new domain name newgirlontheblog.me and everything was working brilliantly until this weekend when it was just saying 403 access denied. So this morning somebody advised to to change my name servers from kualo.net to wordpress.com and i think this has messed everything up because now when i google newgirlontheblog.me instead of getting my current blog i get my old one. I am so upset that i feel like my blog has disappeared into cyber space. please please help me I don’t know what to do.

    Thank you! Frankie

I also bought the new domain name newgirlontheblog.me and everything was working brilliantly until this weekend when it was just saying 403 access denied.

403 access denied sounds like a server or permission error. In that case, dealing with your web host directly for help would have been the correct way to go.

So this morning somebody advised to to change my name servers from kualo.net to wordpress.com

This is probably wrong advice given your situation as you described it here. The only reason you would want to change the name servers is if you were changing hosts. Changing name servers would not fix a 403 error on the host where your blog is currently setup and where you want the domain to be pointed.

Let me try to give you the best advice I can from this point.

First, undo what you did to the name servers. This could take some time. If you are not sure what the name servers are supposed to be, you need to contact your web host to find out. Because of the way you switched, your domain settings (for the “newgirlontheblog.me” name itself) are managed through WordPress.com and you said the hosting is managed through a different company. This means you will use the following help page and enter the name servers your web host gives to you:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

After that is done, you will need to keep working together with your web host to find out why the “403 access denied” error was appearing, especially if it’s still there now. There isn’t a way for WordPress.com to tell what is happening on their side, but if you contact your web host, they should be able to help you sort that problem out.

It sounds like you received some misdirected advice. Perhaps that person didn’t have all the relevant information. So before you make further changes, definitely make sure you are working together with your host and they understand your end goal. It’s easy to miscommunicate when you’re in a panic. The good news is, it should be possible to sort out with the help of a good web host!
