The ".me" domain registration.

I am interested in using the “.me” domain name for 25.00/year. My question is: will my followers, stats, theme, and content all come with me when I switch over?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The followers and stats will transfer from where they are now as in

Blog with followers joshosborne.wordpress.com. – becomes joshosborne.me through the use of domain registration & mapping (standard for here) – will transfer just fine – you will still work in the dashboard of joshosborne.wordpress.com. but your visitors will see joshosborne.me when they visit – just the name on the door changes – same house – same people living in the house

They don’t actually go anywhere. Think of it as having an address for the back door of your house and then installing a front door as well. The googlejuice remains with the old URL so you want to get as many new links to the new URL as you can, to help it gain search engine ranking.

Thank you, much obliged. I’m new to this, so I appreciate the help. Just one more question. Other than no ads (which I really don’t find bothersome anyway) are there any real benefits to upgrading to “.me?”

I wouldn’t upgrade to .me at all. It seems penny-ante. I would upgrade to a .com or a .org (if an organization). Those are what people will assume your site is hosted at. Nobody remembers whatever.wordpress.com URLs compared to whatever.com URLs. It’s good for branding, to seem “big time” as opposed to dilettante.

A custom domain name I think has more class, if you use it for professional things looks better, usually easier to remember. If you decide to move to a new host it is easier for people to follow.

    Better branding

The name linked to my name is domain mapped & no ads is all – @raincoaster has domain mapping but has WordAds (revenue sharing thing)

Don’t get an upgrade unless you really need it and understand what an upgrade does.

If the ads don’t bother you then just go with the domain name & mapping –

Sounds good. I will eventually be making the career move to consulting, and my blog deals with my area of expertise, but I can’t see a definite benefit to upgrading just yet. Think I’ll wait. Thanks again!

Early is better – search engines like longer registrations and it takes them a while to get used to a new name – and you can start your branding today, just don’t tell anyone that that is the reason you got the name –

Agreed. Do it now rather than later.
