The More tag

When I use this tag it doesn’t work on my blog. Maybe I’m not using it correctly. Is this tag to hide extra information? So that the reader clicks on the tag and the rest of the quote or whatever comes up? How do you use it. When I tested it and highlighted something then clicked the More tag all it did was show the More line. But it doesn’t show up in Viewing and it doesn’t hide anything.

Please tell me how to use it and what the tag is for – perhaps I don’t understand its purpose.

the more tag is to keep from showing your entire post in the front page. when you insert the more tag, it will appear as a link in your home page to your post’s url where the rest of the post can be viewed.

people use the more tag to drive up the hits on their blog. they also use it because they don’t want to show the entire post on the front page, maybe because it’s too long or as a suspense factor (ie. click here if you want to find out the rest of the story).

If you’re looking at the web page belonging specifically to that post, you can’t see the More tag. If you’re looking on your main blog page, the More tag will show and the rest of the post is hidden.

Is there any way to close a more tag? Say if I want to hide a bit of text in between open text instead of hiding the rest of the entry?

Not with our setup at WordPress.com, no.
