The Morning After – How to change items/widgets in primary sidebar

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have created a blog/site using The Morning After theme .. but it is not yet public .

    Primary sidebar

    The “primary sidebar” appears on every page .. and displays a number of items/widgets that i would like to delete/remove .. but when i visit the “widgets page”, the primary sidebar tool is blank and does not contain any items/widgets !!!

    Comments section

    Also, how do i delete the “comments” section at the bottom of each page ?

    p.s. My blog/site is not yet public .. so i would like to keep this exchange private .. i dont see an option anymore for private WordPress support ? is there another way to communicate with WordPress support privately ?

    You should be able to remove the default widgets in a sidebar area by inserting a text widget and leaving it blank.

    You can turn off comments for all new posts by unchecking the Allow people to post comments on new articles option in Settings > Discussion. For existing posts you’ll need to edit each post to uncheck the Allow comments option in the “Discussion” section (if it’s not visible you can show it from the “Screen Options” tab at the top of the edit page).

    You are posting to a public support forum (most of us here are volunteer WordPress users), in future if you want to ask a question of the support privately you can use this contact form and make sure you choose the Private: Only WordPress.com staff will be able to view this question. option at the very end before pressing the “Contact Support” button.

    Thank you for last reply.

    1) I have another blog http://www.HellenicPost.net using DePo Masthead theme … with a “contact form” at the bottom of first page and another “contact form” in the right footer widget.

    When a visitor fills and submits form, how can i program the theme to display a new page with a “thank you” or “acknowledgment of receipt” ?

    2) Is there a widget (or other way) to post a list with titles of all posts ?

    When I set up a footer contact form (inside a text widget) in the same theme the contact form will disappear and in it’s place there will be a title saying “Message Sent” followed by a confirmation of what was included in the form. There’s no way of changing the form functionality to go to a new page when it is submitted. If you have the annual custom design upgrade it would be possible to add a little bit of thank-you text to what currently displays. You can preview the code below for free by going to Appearance > Customize > CSS and adding it to the text are then submitting the completed footer form (I haven’t tested it as I didn’t want to spam your contact form, let me know if it doesn’t work!):

    #contact-form-widget-text-6 h3:after {
      content:"Thank you for responding!";
      display:block;
      text-transform:none;
      padding-top:5px;
      font-weight:normal;
    }

    To show posts titles in one of your footer sections you can either try the recent posts widget or use a text widget with the display posts shortcode. It’s a good idea to only show a selection of your posts rather than all of them as otherwise your footer section will become very tall.
