The Morning After – Limit Featured Posts
-
I’m sorry but that’s how tags and Categories operate here at wordpress.com. Only the links in Categories widgets and in Tags widgets direct to content in the blog.
It’s not unique to the theme you are using. On all themes except iNove when categories and tags are clicked at end of posts (or in some themes at the top of them or on the side) they all direct to the wordpress.com global tag pages as I explained above. This cannot be changed.
The only 2 choices are:
1. switch to the iNove theme where you will find features to suppress the display of categories and tags on posts;
2. set your blog visibility to private.

timethief,
I see … but does “private visibility” mean that your blog is not viewable by anyone or does it mean the blog’s tags are invisible???

This is what it means:
2. I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors
3. I would like my blog to be visible only to users I choose

@TT:
I do not know if it is forbidden to use. As far as I know, credit to the author of theme or wordpress.com that should not be removed. The warning from you, is something new for me.
I am waiting for a response from staff. If it can not be done, of course I would not do that. -
Staff,
Please clarify whether or not we are allowed to use CSS editing in this manner? See > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/the-morning-after-limit-featured-posts/page/2?replies=48#post-589763 -
Apart from allowed or not, in my opinion, we use global tag or global category or not is a choice rather than necessity.
-
I agree. While global tagging is great for propagation, it should be a choice … like many other features that serve to “public-tize” or “private-tize” our blogs.
-
The threads in the forum searchbox demonstrate that this matter has been discussed many times. When bloggers start a blog and have only a few posts they become passionate about this issue. However, mu observation is that once they thy build an archive on content they no longer are concerned about it.
As for me I am a practical blogger – very sensible and usually non-emotional. Do I want my tags and category links appearing on the wordpress.com global tagging pages? Let’s see. My blogs have page ranks of 5/10 and 4/10 respectively. The global tag page here http://wordpress.com/tags/ has a pagerank of 8/10. So so do I want those high page rank backlinks to my blog posts – you bet I do.

As I said … good for propagation. But I run a “G” rated blog. The “global” link associated with my current “latest post” article linked this morning to a post with foul language using F*UCK. So do I want global links forced on me – you bet NOT!
-
I hear you Keith and I’m not into foul language in blogs wither but please don’t shoot the messenger re: existing policy or think Volunteers have anything to do with making or changing it. You can approach Staff directly using this link. :) http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

I have to agree with Duto and Keith
1) if we don’t batch ‘sticky’ our posts then only one recent post is displayed on the front page
2) it’s tough that we can’t use a widget like LinkWithin on WordPress.com to keep readers on our blog pages longer
3) And furthermore to have any tags/categories listed to take a reader away from our blog…..Makes everything harder for a blogger :(
-
maybe I’m missing a response, but as far as I know no-one seems to have a way to disable the ‘pages’ widget from automatically showing up in your sidebar, despite not appearing in the ‘widgets’ area in my dashboard…is this another theme-specific quirk or are there settings to change this?

I hadn’t found that in my search, and it’s exactly what I was looking for – thanks so much =)
