The music player widget
-
Hi there,
I want the music player to be displayed in the sidebar of my theme. I purchased the space upgrade, downloaded music, but the player won’t show though I have integrated it in the menu using the appearance/widgets options. I also tried by opting for the player’s visibility to be “Page”/”Home”, but to no avail. How can I make the player visible? I like people to see it as they enter the homepage only, not as an attachment to a blog. Please, let me know. Thanks!

Hi Grace,
no, I was not able to set it up but, for the time being, decided to display the artist info on an extra page as can be seen in the homepage menu. I may have a friend look into changing the codes so that the player displays the artist info while playing because, honestly, this code stuff is Chinese to me and I don’t want to wrap my mind around it. Do you have any counsel to offer in this regard?

Hi Frank,
I’m a bit confused as to your question because your music player is viewable on your Homepage. As seen in the link below, your music player can be seen on the right hand side of the page:
I have played all three of the songs of the songs and it is working properly. You might want to look into this support guide which provides directions on setting up audio players for your site:
Since you’ve already embedded your playlist to your sidebar, you can also customize the audio player such as adding the titles of the tracks and artists through this guide:
Let me know if this is not what you’re looking for!

Grace,
my only concern is to get the player to display artist info while playing the respective music – that’s all. I am not in the mood to fiddle around with the codes in order to make this happen because all the codes stuff is foreign to me, and I don’t want to wrap my mind around it. As I said previously, a friend of mine who happens to be a programmer may have a look at it today and do it for me. Then I still need to learn the ropes, though. I wonder if another player may be more convenient because it doesn’t involve changing codes for functionality and can draw the artist info directly from the library, which the music player provided by WP in the widget section cannot. By the way, when you played the music, how was the sound?
Cheers!

Hi Frank,
I understand. The music sounded great to me! :) I think the easiest way to accomplish what you want would be to edit the title of the song and add the artist’s name. I did that for the three you uploaded to your music player. I think that would be the simplest and most convenient solution.
However, there are other options that might take a bit more work, but may look a bit nicer. Do you have a SoundCloud account? If you do and have a playlist there that you really like you can embed a SoundCloud Audio playlist on to a page/post in your blog. It’s definitely worth checking out here.

k, thanks, Grace! I will have a look at the link you suggested and do some editing later…

Hey Grace,
if you don’t mind, please, help me with the following questions:
– security, privacy: when I went to your Gravatar, I noticed that you have only your pic, no personal info. When you look at mine, you’ll see my real name and email and a lengthy intro. Is this ok, or is it better to be more discreet, i.e., anonymous?
– content: when you read a little in my blog, you’ll realize that I tend to wear my heart on the sleeve and babble away freely and frankly. That’s just me, but do you think it’s appropriate? Is it overdone? I mean I am blogging for that, so if it’s advisable to rather not to (again: a matter of discretion), I am not sure why I would blog at all. Not to mention that I am in the process of writing a brief autobiography, which will be quite telling. But is this too much exposure and too risky?
– how do you feel about music pieces that are one hour long? I got some great ambient pieces. But is it too much?
– my friend couldn’t do anything with the music player (or didn’t want to, too much trouble for him) and recommend using another player, so I’ll research this a bit more. For the time being, I leave it as you arranged it and will check the SoundCloud option.
Thanks for your kind help, Grace!
Best
