The New Block Editor
-
Hello,
to be frank, your new block editor is terrible. Currently I am extremely angry because I clicked on the ‘try the new block editor’ which didn’t come with the warning that if you click on it, there’s no way to go back to the classic editor. So now I’m stuck with your hamfisted block editor that keeps screwing up my posts. And if I want the classic editor back — like, the actual classic editor, not a stupid block that pretends to be the classic editor — then I have to pay for it.
So thanks a lot for that one.

We have tips for transitioning from the classic editor to blocks https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/ and FAQs: https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/#frequently-asked-questions
And, if you really want to use something like the classic editor, we recommend sticking with the classic block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
We also have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
If you have any feedback on the new editor, we’re always looking for ways to improve it, so please let us know!

Thanks for the reply and thanks for trying to help.
1. I know about the tips. The problem is, I should not have to wade through a “user manual” to find features I could find in 0.2 seconds in the old editor.
2. I know about the classic block. I mentioned it in my original post. I also mentioned I don’t want it. I had to redo an entire post twice because of a careless mistake, which did not improve my mood. I want the old editor back without having to pay insane amounts of money for that.
3. Failing this, all WordPress had to do was something considerate like this: “You’re about to switch to the new block editor. Are you sure? You can’t switch back if you click yes.” But there was no such warning, which is why I’m angry.
4. I’m also using Evernote. Evernote is switching to a new editor as well. Which is far more user friendly than the block editor, and it still lets the user switch back to the classic editor. What’s WordPress’ excuse? Aside from wanting to push the new block editor on everyone equally, even on those who don’t want it.
But since I’m apparently stuck with it, I’ll see how long I can put up with it before I just stop using WordPress altogether.
Thank you and have a good day.

We allowed both editors for almost two years, but at this point it’s becoming increasingly difficult for us to maintain both sets of code and keep all of the features we offer running smoothly for all users.
If you want to move to a DIY copy of WordPress with another host, you can install the Classic Editor Plugin. Just note you would need to handle your own hosting, SSL, and technical needs.
If you do that, I’d still recommend trying the block editor now and then and reporting any issues you’re running into, so they can be resolved before that plugin is retired.
