Footnotes disappear on edit

    Gotcha. We had a bug that affected the Footnotes block, which was fixed at the end of July.

    If your posts were edited back then, they could be missing footnotes. This sounds like something else, though, right?

    You’re seeing “an error has occurred” and then they’re gone?

    I’m debating whether it would make sense to start a separate thread, since most others who are following this thread may not be affected. I’m not able to duplicate the error message and we need to figure out how that’s happening.

    That said, I know another user is facing something similar here:

    I am working on a draft of a post and I have about seven footnotes in a footnotes block. While I was writing, I scrolled down and noticed that my footnotes block had been replaced by a white rectangle with the message “This block has encountered an error and cannot be previewed”. I am unable to recover the text of the footnotes, even when I try to load previous versions. The superscript links t

    If you’re encountering errors, can you head over to that thread and send as much context as you can so we can duplicate the error here? I also know they’re working on getting Footnotes to be in revisions, so that should help too.

    I went to edit a post I wrote in July on August 24 and doing so wiped out all my footnotes. The numbers remain in the text but there is no content below for the footnotes.     @lindenksv I can’t duplicate this issue anymore. I’ll ask you too: if you’re seeing any messages about encountering an error with the Footnote, can you head over to this thread and send as much context as you can so we can duplicate the error here?

    I also know they’re working on getting Footnotes to be in revisions, so that should help too. Also if you are getting errors, let us know; we’ll close this thread out since it seems to be a separate issue that is now resolved.

    When did you notice that the content went missing?

    I saved a draft and they seemed to crash, not allowing me to put any more in and the block said it encountered an error trying to load footnotes. They were there to begin with, I edited them and added text and links. Now even after deleting all of them, saving the page as draft and reloading it, when I add a foot note it only comes up as an * and the footnote block doesn’t change

    Also do you have any other posts or pages on your site that do have footnotes still? Or is this an issue with any footnotes on your site?

    This was the first time I was using this feature.

    I would be happy to upload my Javascript console if that would help you track down the error.
