The new high-speed editor is lacking the button: 'This post is super awesome.'
-
I used to use the ‘Awesome post’ button often, in the old editor. I assumed it was used to refer new readers to posts that the author wanted people to come to. Is it still there in the new high-speed editor? If so, where?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @vinnygrette, actually it doesn’t do that. Right now it isn’t available for the new editor, but I would be happy to pass along your request.
Using the the right tags and categories can help bring in traffic, though! We’ve got some tips here:

IMNHO that setting for marking one’s own posts as awesome is clearly narcissistic kid’s stuff and I disabled it the minute after I knew it existed. See > http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2010/04/17/surprise-me/
To disable this go to your Dashboard > Users> Personal Settings page, uncheck the appropriate box, and click “save” lest you be mistaken as a blogger with a child’s blog because only children need the support of such features.
Here are some tips.
If you want to increase traffic then don’t listen to anyone who professes there are passive ways of doing that. Increasing traffic to a blog is hard work. If you want your blog to rank well in search engine results and secure a traffic flow from the SERPs (search engine page results) then that begins with creating and publishing original content posts (not pages) ie. unique content that cannot be found anywhere else on the internet. See How to Identify Your Blog’s Target Audience http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2013/09/01/how-to-identify-your-blogs-target-audience/
It is commenting on other blogs with similar content that encourages traffic to flow to your own blog. If you are a WordPress.com blogger there are onsite tools you can use to find blogs by subject matter that are hosted on this multiuser blogging platform http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2014/01/20/finding-blogs-with-similar-content/ However, do NOT stop there because the classic error new bloggers tend to make here is focusing only on gaining traffic from this site alone.
These 5 videos introduce how Google discovers, crawls, indexes your site’s pages, and how Google displays them in search results. It also touches lightly upon challenges webmasters and search engines face, such as duplicate content http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2010/03/22/5google-webmasters-video-tutorials/
If you are using a WordPress.com theme good SEO is a given.

http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/However, going beyond the theme what the blogger has done within that structure is worth evaluating. Whether you write informative, persuasive or controversial content learning how search engines work, and how to apply basic SEO to you content will benefit your blog as it will increase traffic from targeted readers. http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2011/10/21/two-seo-videos-for-bloggers/

How does wordpress decide what posts to display when a reader likes your post? I’m talking about the message that says: So and so liked your site. Perhaps you will like theirs too (and then lists three posts of theirs to visit). I assumed these posts were chosen from those the author marked with: This site is super awesome.
Yes, please pass on my request, as I use it to signal when a site is particularly useful or original. Would like to know if that is what it was intended for?
I’ll read your tips next, but I’m pretty good at driving traffic and never thought of this tool is being helpful that way… Driving traffic is actually pretty hard and needs to be fairly personal, I think.
Thanks for your response!

My response above was to Supernovia.
But Timethief might see where I was coming from, too, by reading my comment.
I figured WordPress used that button for some important reason, but if Timethief is correct, it has no use within WordPress whatsoever and there is no reason for authors to consider using it.
Perhaps Timethief knows what mechanism chooses the posts that go out with the message I refer to in my comment above? Most likes? Three latest? Random?

@vinnygrette, it is part of the Surprise Me feature, and we may at times do things with posts that are marked as “super-awesome” . But those things are just for fun.
So and so liked your site. Perhaps you will like theirs too (and then lists three posts of theirs to visit). I assumed these posts were chosen from those the author marked with: This site is super awesome.
Actually it just shows their three latest posts so you can see what they’ve been up to lately.
If you want to feature posts on your site, though, there are ways to do that with your theme and what not. Let us know if you want help with that.

Thanks, Velda. The three latest makes sense. But i often see some sites where it’s always the *same* three, even though the author is actively publishing. That’s why I wondered if there was a way to specify.
Once a year, I do feature the best posts of the year in the footnotes. I found a few ways to do it and it’s interesting. I could do this more often, but the picture gallery does take a bit of work.
Thanks for your help. I won’t worry about that awesome button any longer :).

Thanks, Timethief, for all those links. I’m working my way through them. So much to learn!
-
@vinnygrette, if you have a recent example, I’ll take a look to see how they did it. Or if you want to just close this case, we can do that too. Cheers!
