the new WordPress format is an awkward frustrating downgrade

How can you help? Go back to Classic. It was great in every way. Every way.

Hi,
Can you take a look at this page and make sure that you have followed the instructions to access the classic editor:
https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/#how-to-access-the-classic-editor

I do go to Classic whenever I need something from the GOOD old format. That won’t last forever. AND it still doesn’t work as well as classic in its entirety. I can’t drag and drop photos. I can’t use an index to find old photos. I can’t select colors from a complete palate (only blue). I can’t access the html file for fine tuning.

I did not see the option to access the classic editor enabled on your account (you still need to turn it on) so to clarify, you can use the Classic editor if you wish. The steps to access it are found here:
https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/#how-to-access-the-classic-editor
As a first step, you will want to set your account to “Show advanced dashboard pages” here: https://wordpress.com/me/account
Just click the option shown in my screenshot here: https://d.pr/i/QqCdQz
Once you have turned on that option, you can visit your list of posts and instead of seeing the WordPress.com admin view, you will see the more advanced “wp-admin” view. On that page you can access the classic editor via the options shown in this screenshot: https://d.pr/i/pbLBUS

That’s more like it! Maybe that last bit of instruction “As a first step, you will want to set your account to “Show advanced dashboard pages” here: https://wordpress.com/me/account” solved all the problems (I hope, because it looks like classic). But for how long? Thank you handling my crankiness with kindness and hospitality.

Thank you for the info and the screen shots. I have to agree that it made me cranky too and while able to use the block format and I am sure has many wonderful options, I just like classic….so thank you again….Michelle
