The "older Posts" link is not clickable through the keyboard
-
I am using the “Elegant Grunge” theme and I have the “older Posts” icon at the bottom of my blog but when I hit ‘enter key’, it does not get activated. I am a screenreader user and hence, I can’t use the mouse. So, I would highly appreciate if somebody could kindly fix this for me. I want it to be a link, when hit “enter key” on it should expand the list of previous entries.
Thanks a lot in advance.

I tried your “older posts” button and it works, but it just adds page 2 to page one to make a page twice as long. You may be able to fix this by unchecking “To infinity and beyond” (aka Infinite Scroll) at your Reading Settings.

Hi Musicdoc1,
Thank you so much for your kind suggestion. Well, in my case, I don’t find the option to “check” or “uncheck” on “To infinite and beyond” heading. I can just find the following text:
“To infinity and beyond
We’ve changed this option to a click-to-scroll version for you since you have footer widgets in Appearance → Widgets, or your theme uses click-to-scroll as the default behavior.”I don’t find any link to click or change the setting. Any further help will b highly appreciated.

We’ve changed this option to a click-to-scroll version for you since you have footer widgets in Appearance → Widgets, or your theme uses click-to-scroll as the default behavior.
You won’t see that if you move the widgets in your footer area into either the primary widget area. Doing so will display the Infinite Scroll option, which may be checked by default. Not sure unchecking that will change the page adding behaviour, since I haven’t seen an “older posts” button on the themes I’ve used since they added Infinite Scroll a couple of years or three ago. What I see instead at the bottom of the front page (when I don’t have widgets in the foot widget area) is “Load More Posts.”
Clicking the “Load More Posts” button once — it was two and half years ago that I last tried it — would always slow my PC to a crawl on the first click, sometimes crashing it, but definitely result in crashing after the second click. I didn’t find that to be the case with the “Older Posts” button on your website, though the difference may be due to the content and length of my posts being typically heavier (many images and videos) and longer, respectively, than yours. On your website, two clicks of “Older Posts” displayed three times as many posts as displayed by default, but it did not significantly affect my CPU usage.
Getting back to your initial issue statement:
I am using the “Elegant Grunge” theme and I have the “older Posts” icon at the bottom of my blog but when I hit ‘enter key’, it does not get activated…I want it to be a link, when hit “enter key” on it should expand the list of previous entries.
Are you still finding that the “older posts” button does not add a second page of posts? By the way, I found that when you use this button to add more pages, the page URL changes as you scroll down to reflect the archive level: page 2, page 3, etcetera.

Delete “either” from this sentence.

Hi Music1,
Many many thanks for your kind help. Well, I have asked my friend to click with the mouse and it works. But when I use the “enter key” on the icon, it doesn’t get activated. I think it’s the accessibility issue which wordpress has not yet realized. I am blind and I use screenreader to navigate. But that’s ok, as long as my sighted readers can click on it. but I feel sorry that blind readers still have to check out my “post categories” or “post archives” to view my older posts until WordPress makes the “older post” link accessible with screenreader.

The “enter key”? Is this supposed to activate the “older posts” loading?

I’ll flag the thread for Staff attention.

Hi @amrithbahadur,
We’re aware of this issue, and we’re currently working on a fix. I’ll follow up here when the fix is put in place!

O that would be great, my dear friend. Thank you so much for your kind help. I hope they might be able to fix it at least for the benefit of blind users…..
