The page width won’t change

    Hi.
I’m using the Meraki template, which is fine, and I’ve managed to work everything out with this overly complicated new Editor Beta. Everything except the page width. I want the whole website to be standardised to 1000px for text, images, comment boxes, posts, etc. I’ve changed all my templates settings to this size, and I’ve changed all my blocks to be 1000px but only the homepage has changed.
It is obvious between homepage and others it is wider by reading the paragraphs. I think the rest are at the previous template set-up of 650px.

Can you please help with this? I’ve checked the FAQ’s and nothing really explains why it isn’t widening for me. I found a ‘latest blog posts block’ FAQ but this one was prior to Editor Beta so doesn’t help me much.

I’m on my laptop but I don’t know if it won’t go wider for ‘phone’ settings, which would be fine but it isn’t clear that is what it is doing, but for computer/laptop settings I want the 1000px – because it looks ridiculous on screen otherwise. I just cannot work out why homescreen changed fine but none of my ‘post query’ blocks will extend to 1000px.

    Thanks.

  • Hello –

You’re off to a great start! Congrats on this new project. I’ll be glad to help. And, before I forget, safe travels to y’all!

When I look at the photography page I see that the images are displayed in a full-width grid appearance. The text above this grid is centered to the middle of the page. Is that what you’re hoping to widen? It’s the same for the blog page. The blog posts display centered in the middle of the page.

It’s important to remember that around 90% of internet usage happens on a tablet or mobile device. Our themes are automatically formatted to display and perform well on mobile views, so you don’t need to worry about that.

If you look at the setup instructional page you’re going to see that the content is very much centered on the pages – since that’s not how you want this to look my suggestions are that we:

    1. find a theme that looks how you want the content to be displayed.
    2. continue using this theme and add custom css to change the width of your text blocks.

The biggest problem with #2 is that it will alter mobile optimization. If it were me building this, I’d find a different theme.

Looking at the twenty twenty three theme, it could be a nice combination for y’all in displaying those beautiful photographs and blogs in one space: https://twentytwentythreedemo.wordpress.com/

Another option, which would prominently display your photography is the photos theme: https://photosdemo.wordpress.com/ it’s easy enough to add another page for your blog posts to be published on and linked in the site menu.

A text based view like upsidedown theme would highlight your blog post titles (in my mind these are locations) and then you can add your photography on a page that’s linked in the menu. https://upsidedowndemo.wordpress.com/

Last thing, are y’all planning to monetize this site? Write back with more questions and follow ups. I am certain we will be able to get y’all off on the path towards success.
