The picture I had in the widgets is gone.
-
Just wondering if anyone is having a problem with Andreas09? I usually have a picture with a description of each of my blogs on the widget side. But for some reason the picture is missing in all four of my blogs? Should I just wait for it too come back…or do I need to do something to fix it?
-
Which picture? I see a few missing ones and they are all hosted at blogher.org . Perhaps you should host them somewhere else?

It’s just the little image of myself that is next to my description of my blog. I’ve never had this type of problem before, and it only just happened. I’m hoping it will resolve itself. Other times when pictures have gone missing in my posts, they end up coming back some how.
-
That one is also coming from blogher.org. So, it looks like a problem with images coming from there. Look all over your blog. There are many missing images. blogher.org is the common factor for all of them. I tried going to blogher.org by clicking on any of the broken images and the pages won’t load. So, the site seems to be down.

Oh, that must be what it is then, I got an email that the BlogHer site was down. Thanks so much, it should return as soon as they get their site back. I didn’t even realize I have that image connected with BlogHer.
Thanks again, I appreciate your help.

I’m wondering if the little picture was uploaded into the wordpress.com servers or if you hotlinked to it at Blogher. If it’s the latter and the Blogher site is down then the disappearance could be explained by that. And, if not, you will have to contact staff for help tomorrow between 9-5 PM http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

I’ll wait and see if the picture comes back with the site. If so, I guess I should figure out how to not have that picture “hotlinked” — When it comes to pictures and stuff, I really don’t know what I’m doing, sometimes something works other times not — it’s just a lot of trial and error, and a lot of error. Thanks for your insight.

YAY! Good for you then this can be resolved.@catherine
If you have the images on your own computer you can upload them all into the wordpress.com servers and then when Blogher goes down they will not be effected. :)The easy way to upload images for sidebar widget display for non-geeky bloggers.
(1) Pre-size the image on your own computer making sure it will be small enough to be accommodated in the sidebar without breaking the blog layout.
(2) Turn off the visual rich text editor here on this page -> Users -> Your Profile
(uncheck the checkbox and then click “Update Options” to save)
(3) Go to -> Write -> Post
upload the image from your computer using the “browse” button
Select “full size” and click “send to editor”
(4) The image code will now appear on the post – Copy the image code
(5) Save the post as a draft just in case you need to use it again
(6) Go to -> Presentation -> Widgets
select a text widget, drag it from the “Available widgets” box into the “Sidebar” box
(7) click on the blue and white icon on the upper right corner of the text widget to open it and Paste the image code into it
(8) click the X to close the text widget and then click “Save Changes”
(9) View your blog – the image should be in your sidebar
(10) Delete the draft post.
(11) Turn the visual rich text editor back on. -

To not have them hotlinked, save the picture to your computer, then upload them to your WordPress blog. You can go to “Write a post” to access the upload form. As you upload each one, copy the image address. I usually do this (in Opera 9) by right-clicking the picture and choosing “Copy link address”. Once you have all of that, go into your widgets and replace the SRC attribute of the IMG elements with the appropriate addresses of your uploaded images.
By uploading them to your blog, they will always be available unless your whole blog goes down (and then it wouldn’t matter).

My problem is…I don’t know how to make my picture small enough. I just tried to upload it from my computer, and that was the problem. That must be why I linked from BlogHer…I probably just copied the “code” and put it in the widget. I really need to figure out how to manage my own pictures, put so far all I can do it upload them, sizing and all the other stuff I just can’t seem to understand.
-
If you have windows then you have “paint”. You can simply upload the image into “paint” and drag a diagonal corner to make the image small enough and then save it.
-
I’ll give that a try, thanks. I just noticed my pictures are back now, blogher is still not loading. Anyway, I’ll give the “paint” thing a try, I really do need to start understanding these things better. Thanks for the help.
