The pretty urls…
-
How do i make the url’s “pretty” with mod_rewrite… been searching all over and i can’t find it or get it to work.

If you’re hosted here at wp.com, then you already have the pretty URLs.
If you’re hosted elsewhere, you need to be over at http://wordpress.org as you would be running different software.

All URLs are special, it’s just that some are special on the INSIDE, rather than the outside.

i’m not bothered by that, the non-techie geek i am. i’m just curious why are they named as such.

The shorter a url is the “prettier” it looks. When a post can be pulled from the archvies that simply has an archival number it does not stretch across a mile across the page like one with a long post title blah, blah, blah, plus the date. Check out the permalink options you have on your daria.be blog and you’ll see what the OP meant.

They’re called “pretty URLs” because they’re more ‘easy’ to read and/or remember. For example:
http://www .yourblog.com/an-article-you-wrote/
is better than
http://www .yourblog.com/display.php?articleId=60&pageId=1Besides, they’re search engine friendly.
Hope this answers your question.
Edit
I’ve been trying to make the sample URLs not to be active links, but no dice… any admin/mod that can help with this? :P -
