The purpose of the call to r-login.wordpress.com

Hi. The website https://blog.weremoto.com/ doesn’t belong to me. My question is about the purpose of the call to r-login.wordpress.com/remote_login.php that some websites make, even if you’re a guest. It contains the parameters ‘origin’ and ‘wpcomid’, both of which seem to be unique to the website and not have anything to do with the browsing user/guest.

Okay, so it seems the purpose is to track which wordpress websites you visit (gross), but this makes no sense since I’ve only seen the requests used on websites with non-wordpress domains, and so cookies get blocked as they are CORS requests. Can anyone confirm?
