The sidebar nav menu in my Espied portfolio site is now broken
-
I was making some slight edits to my portfolio website, hosted on WordPress.com in Espied theme and I noticed that the popout nav menu in the sidebar at top right corner drops off the page at the point where the window is wide enough for the site identity tagline to display. I am using this website to get a job and the last time I looked at it, the sidebar/nav menu behaved normally. This is a free WordPress hosted site so I don’t have full admin control. It seems like WP might have been upgraded and something in the Espied theme broke. Even if I remove the site title and tagline, the menu aberrant behavior still exists. The exact same thing [on the opposite side of the page] happens if I preview the Sidespied theme.

Hi there,
I’m not sure I understand, when I check your site, everything looks as expected. Could you share a screenshot of what you see on your end? You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply.

Thanks. Here is the page when on a mobile-sized window. The hamburger displays normally at top right. The tagline is not showing yet.

Once the window is large enough to show the tagline, the menu hamburger shifts up and almost off the page and the green colored sidebar of the theme is not displaying any color.
The site behaves normally on a small mobile sized browser, but on a tablet or desktop – broken. If the menu button is clicked while askew it still pops out and works. It just looks broken. But since I am using my site to get a job, it looks very bad and I don’t know why this has happened.

Hi there,
This is happening because part of the menu button is hidden by the banner at the top. That banner is displayed on all sites on the Free plan and you can remove it by upgrading to one of our paid plans.
Alternatively, you can use a different theme with a different menu placement.
Having said that, I have already reported that to our developers and I’ll let you know if there’s fix or not.

Will upgrade since it breaks this theme and none of the other portfolio free themes were functional with the site without a complete re-think. I’ve invested too much time in getting what I have and don’t want any more re-design.

I suspected that the new banner ad may have been the culprit since I had not seen it before. I now own my domain so… problem sidestepped. Thanks for the response. I’ve loved WP for over a decade for my personal blogging and for work done for my employers/clients, so now I can truly say that I love it twice as much.
