The Tonal theme

  • Unknown's avatar

    I love Tonal theme, is bright and minimal.

    But, I have several question about it.

    Is it possible, in the comment form, move the “reply button” under the comment, and not next to the nick?
    Is it possibile to have a subscribe form in the theme’s footer and add social links in the theme’s header?

    Thanks for your attention!

    Those are not options built into the theme, so you cannot do what you’re asking with the free settings.

    However, there is a paid upgrade called Custom Design which gives you access to a CSS Editor where you can add CSS to customize the look of a theme and you could make some of the changes you described using custom CSS.

    You can try out custom CSS before purchasing. To do it, go to Appearance > Customize > Custom Design and click the “Try Now” button. If you don’t see a Custom Design menu item, then you are already in the Try Now mode for Custom Design. Find the CSS menu item in the blue menu on the right and click it to open the CSS editing panel.

    Here are some examples you can try out:

    Is it possible, in the comment form, move the “reply button” under the comment, and not next to the nick?

    .comment-body .reply {
    	position: relative;
    	padding-bottom: 1em;
    }

    Is it possibile to have a subscribe form in the theme’s footer and add social links in the theme’s header?

    CSS cannot be used to add functionality, however, it can be used to move things around on the page if you can add them via settings. Unfortunately, there is not a way to add add widgets in a way you can move them to where you want because the Tonal theme places all of the widgets in a hidden slide-out panel at the top of the page that is only visible after you click the box with the three horizontal lines in it.

    In this case, because of the functions you’re looking for, I think a different theme might work better for you. If you’re looking for a minimal theme, check out Singl. When it comes to something bright, keep in mind that you can often change the background color to make any of the themes bright even if they look dark in the demo site.

    Hi designsimply!
    First of all, thank you for your answer.
    I thought about using Singl, but the option to reply to comments is next to title of the post, not under the entry, and I have to get the custom design to change it …
    By the way, good evening and thanks again!

    Ah, yes, I was more looking for a similar bright and minimal design but didn’t check the location of the Reply link on comments.

    How about the McKinley theme?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Also McKinley has reply link next to title of the post… :(

  • Unknown's avatar

    I checked the comments, and the reply link was below comments. Example: https://cloudup.com/cGEi9euoWlB

    Maybe I’m not looking at the same thing you are?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Sorry, I expressed badly. :P
    I meant that the option to reply to comments is next to the title of the post, while I would like the below …

    There is not a theme that satisfies me completely, unless I steps to Custom Design.

    I will continue to use Suit, thanks again for your interest! ;)

    I have upgraded to the Custom Design and wanted to know how I would go about putting new CSS that would change the tagline of the Tonal theme that I am using to a smaller font.

    I am very new to this, so bare with me if this is a simple question.

    Thanks

    @belugg Hi, do you mind posting your question as a new thread on the CSS Customization forum? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi again @belugg! I’m following up on this thread. I checked to see if you made another post in the CSS forum, but I didn’t find one. So I wanted to just give a quick reply here and then encourage you to post in the CSS forum if you have more questions!

    To change the tagline in the Tonal theme to use a smaller font, add this example to your Appearance > Customize > CSS editor:

    #secondary > h2 {
    	font-size: 11px;
    }

    Adjust the 11px number as needed.

    If you have more questions about CSS, go to https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization/#postform

    Cheers!

    Hi. I like this theme too. But I’m wondering what the black rectangle is at the bottom of my screen on the iPad?

    Also, how can I make the little text or photo icon go away? Near the title of the pot. I don’t understand this trend at all. It will be pretty obvious if you’re posting words or a photo or a video. Why the icon? Detracts from the otherwise minimal, uncluttered aesthetic of the theme.

    Last, I had to put a space in the title of my blog bc on the iPhone it was being broken into two lines unless I used a very tiny font. Any way around this?

    Thanks!

    I’m a bit stuck. In the colors panel when I hit “default” it doesn’t go back to default settings but another profile that just doesn’t allow you to see all the elements as they first were when I initially installed the theme. Help?

  • evenicol & milkweedphoto – could you please each start a new thread for your separate questions? Thanks.
