Why don't the Update and Preview buttons always work when editing my site?

  When I edit my posts, then try to preview it, it just waits and waits and then never goes to preview. Same thing when I try to hit the update button. I have to log out and try again, usually loosing my updates and having to re-do them. Why does this keep happening?
