The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files

    Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well.

    I’ve run into some issues updating WordPress.

    The site is up and running as expected, however, when I run the WordPress updater, we get the following error:

    – The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.: wp-admin/includes/update-core.php

    I’ve logged into the server and had a look around, the WordPress instance is running as user ‘apache’, and all the WordPress core files are owned by ‘apache:apache’ with files as 664 and folders as 755

    The weird thing is that plugin updates still work.

    Just wondering if this is something you’ve run into before.

    How could I change the ownership for the updater and WordPress core files? Would that affect the Site Server?

    The server runs on RHEL 8.5
