The upload photo button is missing from wordpress editor

    I just wrote a post and went to upload my photos but the usual photo button is missing from the editor. There is an upload media button but it shows a gallery of images that are already in past posts and I do not see a way to navigate to the folder on my computer with the new images I want to upload. PLEASE HELP!
