Hello,
I have a wordpress blog and I have forwarded my personal domain to it.
My personal domain is elbashra.com
Now, the blog posts do not have a URL that starts with elbashra.com
instead, the URL is elbashra.wordpress.com
How do I fix this?
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I just checked out your site. You have pointed your domain (elbashra.com) to your WordPress.com blog (elbashra.wordpress.com) using a 301 redirect with your domain registrar (GoDaddy). This means that, when someone visits your domain (elbashra.com) they are redirected to your WordPress.com blog.
However, please note that this does not change the permanent URL of your blog (or its posts).
If you would like to have add the elbashra.com URL to your blog (and all your posts), you would have to purchase a domain mapping upgrade from WordPress.com.
Please note that domain mapping is a paid upgrade and will cost you $13 per year.
To know more on domain mapping, feel free to check this support article:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/After purchasing the domain mapping upgrade, you will have to change your domain nameservers to activate it. Here are the instructions to do so in GoDaddy:

Hello Hari,
This is very helpful, and thank you so much for the very quick response!Ok, so my question then would be: which is a better option, domain mapping, or purchasing web hosting? (that’s the right terminology right? “purchasing hosting”? I’m brand new to this!)
-
Hi again. :)
Purchasing hosting to host your blog, would mean using a different version of WordPress for your blog – the self hosted version available at WordPress.org. You are currently using the hosted version of WordPress available at WordPress.com
To know more about the differences between both versions, you may want to check this link:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/Both WordPress.com as well as the self-hosted version of WordPress have their advantages and disadvantages.
The hosted version has more customizability and flexibility (with a wider choice of themes and the ability to add more features with plugins, to name a few). That said, purchasing hosting, moving to and managing a self-hosted blog might not be convenient for everyone. Plus, it involves additional costs of purchasing hosting; even the cheapest of hosting packages start at $40 – $50 per year. Also, you would have to transfer content from your blog to the new WordPress hosted blog.
If you choose to map your existing domain to WordPress.com, the cost is much less – $13 per year. Plus you wouldn’t have to worry about hosting (some web hosts have a bad habit of sites going down – an occurance that is nearly zero for WordPress.com hosted-blogs).
So, if you ask me, my personal opinion would be for you to go for domain mapping, because it is quick and hassle-free. Domain mapping perfectly suits your requirement of linking your domain to your blog posts without much ado.
I hope I have answered your question. Please feel free to get back here, in case of any further doubts.

Hari, thank you for this detailed explanation. You are right, at this juncture, mapping would suit my needs. I was hoping to get an (@elbashra.com) email for followers to email me, but my understanding this would only be available with web hosting. I guess I can just use gmail for now!
Thank you again so much!

@elbashra, Actually, you create a custom email id too (@elbashra.com), quite easily (in many cases, for free!) – even when your domain is mapped to WordPress.com. Your domain registrar, GoDaddy offers free email forwarding That is, you can create a custom email id (e.g. (email visible only to moderators and staff)) using this service and the emails would be delivered to the id of your choice (e.g. your gmail id). You can also send emails using this email id ((email visible only to moderators and staff)). This support document from GMail explains the procedure:
https://support.google.com/mail/answer/22370?hl=enNow, if you’re not satisfied with email forwarding alone (which practically gives you the same functionality as owning your email), you can create a custom email id of your own using services like Zoho (which is free till 10 mailboxes) or Google Apps ($50 per mailbox per year).

Hari! Thank you so much! I was finally able to get around to trying this advice. I opted for Zoho.
Great, great advice, thank you!
