The user comments are not showing

This is the usual link when you click on the number of comments https://amalalamuddinstyle.wordpress.com/2015/12/06/amal-clooney-attends-in-lanvin-charlotte-tilburys-christmas-party/#comments

And they don’t appear.

The other link, is a temporary solution. Check the links.

Yes, the comments continue to disappear. I will update the theme and see if that will fix it.

Thanks, @susanusa, we are looking at your site from this end too. You have quite a few comments on that post (almost 10K if you count the ones that haven’t been approved yet) so your issue could be different because of that unusually large number.

Ok, I updated the theme and still the same problem. Do you think I should delete some of the comments? Could that be the problem. I can do that. I have tried to do everything I know to do. Nothing has worked.

The comments disappear on both the Home page and the Food List page.

supernovia, if I leave a comment they all the other comments show up on the page. But then when the page is refreshed a little while later, they disappear again. That happens on both the Home page and the Food List page.

Bugs! Aargh!

@Susanusa it could be one of your plugins that’s causing this problem. WordPress has been updated not that long ago, so it’s possible that some older plugins haven’t caught up just yet. So you could try deactivating all the plugins and see if the comments appear again. If they do, then re-activate your plugins one by one till you catch the culprit.

Blogger installed plugin capability does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.

For that type of functionality you’d need a self-hosted WordPress.ORG software install running on a paid web hosting service.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins (passwords), features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. I have a hosted site for this topic. But this WordPress hosted site is ranked #2 on Google and has more than 14M visits. Even WordPress says to not change it.

I am eagerly awaiting input from supernovia.

Here the infromation by @thesacredpath

“Hi again, the developers are working on this, but in the meantime you can get the comments to show by going to Settings > Discussion and under Other comment settings where it says,

Break comments into pages with XXX top level comments per page and the Last page displayed by default

change last to first. Check some of your posts with greater than 50 comments to make sure they are showing, but in my testing this change brought the comments back on the single post pages.”

I made the changes and it works :)

@susanusa your issue is different actually; you’re dealing with about 10,000 comments on this one post.

Can you temporarily disable threading? That’s here:
https://wordpress.com/settings/discussion/

Uncheck “Enable threaded (nested) comments up to __ levels deep” and save the settings. Let me know when that’s done. Our developers are troubleshooting your site now, and this change will help them find the root of the issue. Thanks!

@supernovia, I just unchecked the “Enable threading” option.

I have the same problem on my blog

The number of comments to show was 50, and I changed it to 30. Then the comments reappeared. I found I could move it back to 40 and they would still be there, but if I set it back to 50 they vanished again.

@susanusa we are still working on this, but we did notice that in your case, all of the comments show up if we show oldest first. We’re trying to sort out why. I’ll keep you updated.
