It says I’m not eligible for wordads but you have been running ads on my website for weeks. I have generated good traffic and I’m wondering whether my ad revenue will cover the costs of advertising with Google???

Correct. Free sites do have ads on them, however, you aren’t able to profit from those ads unless an upgraded hosting plan is added. See here:
