I customized a theme, but now I want the original theme back. When I go to the theme option I select it again & preview it. But, it previews with the changes I made. How do I get the original theme back?

We cannot help you here with the site linked to your username as this forum is only for free hosted WordPress.com blogs. Support for your website software and any advice you need are provided on the WordPress.org support forums and they are here http://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.org, click that link and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the correct support forums for your software.

Are you talking about your crochetmelovely.wordpress.com account and saying that you have purchased the “custom CSS” upgrade for it? Or are you just experimenting with the “preview” function that allows you to check out what the theme WOULD look like if you purchased the upgrade?
Or are you referring to a self-hosted WordPress blog theme that you have modified yourself, as thistimethisspace has posted?

When the OP responds to what I posted I shall above shall know the answer and will proceed accordingly – thanks. -
@thistimethisspace
On the off chance that she was confused by your post, I thought some clarification was in order. Her WordPress username site is a WordPress.com hosted one using the “crafty” theme. There is no reference to a .org site that I can see. She does have a link to a well known “craft” site in her member page, but that is a different thing.
In any case, you are correct, further response by the OP will be necessary.

I used a free theme. Not a premium. I saved it as my theme. Then I customized some settings. I saved that. But, now I’d like the original theme back. When I go to the themes page I can preview the theme, but all the changes I made still show. I’m trying to figure out if I can default back to that original theme.

Thanks so much, in advance for not attempting to clarify anything I post until the person I address responds to me. You see I’m visually challenged. I have answered questions here for over 6years and that’s longer than the support staff have been on staff with very exceptions. It’s difficult for me to have to use my eyesight to chat with you so thanks also for not responding to this either. -
@crochetmelovely
There is zero evidence of any CSS editing being done on the free hosted WordPress.com blog. If that is the blog in question then changing themes is easily done.Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes
type in the name of the theme you want to use Matala
click the “activate” link when it appearsAfter you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.
Any customizing you did under
Appearance > Header
Appearance> Background
Appearance > Theme Options
can be removed. Simply go there and remove what you did previously. -
I don’t see any issue here, we’re all just trying to help out our fellow bloggers! All that matters is that the person asking for help gets their problem solved.

If you want to restore Matala to it’s original state then what trips sopme bloggers up is the background settings.
Go here > Appearance > Background and remove the color you set there “clear” to restore the theme to the image display it previously had. -
@monkeybutler
It’s good that you don’t see any issue because that means it won’t be necessary for me to continue responding to you. -
Thank you for the help! I didn’t know where the ‘clear’ button was! XD I appreciate that you took time to help me!
