Hi, I chose a theme and I can’t seem to edit it? I want to change the background color and font and stuff. Can someone help? Thanks

If you have a free hosted wordpress.com blog then you will require a CSS upgrade in order to change the background color. You can change the font manually on each post without the CSS upgrade but inorder to achieve this throughout the blog you will require the CSS upgrade. If you are contemplating the upgrade then please be aware that there is no staff support for learning CSS and very few volunteers are available to answer questions. Basically you are on your own.

You cannot edit the underlying theme files. This is a multi-user platform and we all share the same underlying files. A change by one person would change the theme for everyone using it.
We do have the paid CSS upgrade which allows you to change the look of the themes here at wordpress.COM, but it does not allow us to change the functionality of the theme. Do also note that there is no official support for the CSS upgrade so it is not recommended unless you have CSS editing experience. It isn’t rocket science, but you have to have at least some knowledge of what CSS is and how it works. You can try out changes using the preview under appearance > edit CSS, but you cannot save the changes unless you pay for the CSS upgrade.

Well, I rarely get sick but when I did get sick, instead of taking medicine, I work out. Maybe you should try to sweat the cold out.

Thanks for the advice. FWIW I’m not the type of person who takes meds at all. I have a compromised immune system – fibromyalgia. I believe my flu/cold, which brings about debilitating coughing fits, has now become sinusitis and pneumonia. Working out is out of the question.

I just noticed that when I go to my blog (http://shinyideas.wordpress.com/), all the stuff has suddenly disappeared from the right margin and appears after the last post on the page. This has never happened before, when I viewed it. And I don’t want it that way.
Is it just a quirk that I’m seeing today, or has something changed that has screwed it up?

You will find the answer to your question here http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/05/30/why-is-my-sidebar-at-the-bottom-of-my-posts/

Thank you! So far, from what it says there, nothing applies, since this has only happened recently, well after the last time I posted. (And several times I looked at it since then, it looked fine.)
But I’ll start there, and come back if nothing applies. Thanks.
Meanwhile — happy new year!

Thank you for your help! I think I’ll wait. I have another question. Is there a code index? I’m trying to add a link to my side bar and I don’t want the whole link I just want a word you can click on and it will take you right there. NAME like this. But it want work. Also is there a code to space something? Thanks!

I checked through the possibilities and found the glitch. Thanks so much! Have some chocolate.
