  I keep trying to activate a different theme however it never updates fully. It seems to be stuck on the shawburn theme regardless of what I activate.

  What is the address of your site? The theme is most likely changing but may well inherit an image/content from a previous theme.

  3littlesunshines.wordpress.com – it seems to inherit mostly the previous theme and barely give me any of the new theme

  You haven’t launched your site yet so I can’t see the issues you’re facing, But you do need a reasonable amount of your own content before you can follow the theme instructions and make your site look more like the demo.
