Theme activation issue
-
Hello,
button Save and activate in theme preview don’t work as intended in my blog. It doesn’t activate a theme. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ve tried many times with random themes – almast all free themes. To activate a theme I need to close the preview and hit the blue button activate /near to button preview/. But the button inside the preview doesn’t work at all. For me the problem is rather old – from more than a year.

Alright. I’m seeing that the activate and cancel buttons are hidden behind the admin bar:
Is this what you’re seeing and having trouble with?
-
No, they are not hidden, but save and activate don’t really activate a theme. When i hit this button browser asks me to stay or leave the page. In both cases /staying or leaving/ the theme is not activated. To activate certain theme I must be in the main window with all themes.
Is there a way to remove all retired themes from my admin panel? I don’t use them anymore and they only slow loading all themes. Thank you

Hi Emil,
Could you please follow these instructions to send screenshots of your HTTP Headers when attempting to Save and Activate from the theme Preview?
This typically requires multiple screenshots to capture all the information. Once you have the images, please upload them to your media library so I can add them to the report to our theme team.
The “stay or leave” option is peculiar — typically browsers will display it when you’re leaving a page to alert you that the changes have not been saved. I’d expect to see that from the back button, or closing the tab, but not from the Save and Activate button.
If you make changes while in the Preview, then select the “X” button to end the preview, that should trigger the “stay or leave” alert.

Hi alexjgustafson,
now I tested activating random themes and maybe the things work.
In preview window when I didn’t make any changes to a theme hit save and activate it activates the theme. When I make some changes /in colors, background just to test/ and hit save and activate there appears browser question leave or stay in current page. When leave the page the theme is activated with the changes, when stay and then close it from X it is not activated.
Is that the normal behaviour? Thanks in advance. -
Hi Emil,
That all sounds very normal! I’m little surprised the browser is alerting you for the “Save and Activate” button, but to click ‘leave this page’ really just tells the browser to complete the commands you gave it… which happens to be the Save and Activate. So if it’s saving your changes and activating the theme, that’s what we’re looking for. :)
That alert is just the browsing trying to help you not lose any work, but sometimes its more confusing than helpful!

This is in Firefox 36, Windows 8.1. Form me it is not so confusing, just to work and activate the theme. There is also alert when you make changes nad press “X” button. Thank you again.
