Theme advice needed
-
G’day,
To be as brief and concise as possible, this is want I want to do.
Start a book and other stuff review blog on WordPress.
I want the main page to look like a grid/portfolio, just pictures of the book cover, click on it to get the review.
My very limited research tells me I should have “responsive”. Other than that, Must be easy for me to set up. Which theme? Please advise!!! Oh, must look clean and uncluttered . Thank you -
Click the big blue “find a theme” button here http://theme.wordpress.com/ and there are feature filters that you can use for “layouts”. Currently there are 96 free Responsive Layout WordPress Themes http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/responsive-layout/?sort=free

Yes, I know where to find them, I was really needing advice on which one, but thank you anyway, this is probably not the right place for this question

Hi there! If you want the main page to have a grid or portfolio look, you might check out some of the themes tagged portfolio:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/search/portfolio/
Keep in mind that with most portfolio-type themes, each grid square links to a separate post or page.
Sketch is a really clean, responsive, portfolio theme that is fairly new:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sketch/
Pictorico is a popular grid-style theme:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/pictorico/
Here’s a guide to using the portfolio custom post type:
Good luck finding the right theme for you! Don’t forget that you can preview any theme within your dashboard under Appearance > Themes, so you can try it on for size first.

thank you very much, I’m looking through them now.
I greatly appreciate your help and your time -

Sneaking in a question,
Have they removed the option for private or public view of the blog/website ? It’s no longer under the reader setting, only an option to discourage search engines -

gannelgirl – as raincoaster said, the option should still be there under Settings > Reading, in the Site Visibility section. I don’t see any blogs currently on your account, but if you have one where you’re not seeing the setting, just drop the link here and I’ll have a look. Thanks!

Maybe I’m in the wrong forum, bear with me while I tell you the story!
I started a WordPress free blog, was advised by a friend to upgrade as there were some good offers …. And so on. My friend told me that before signing up (Gooddaddy managed) I must completely delete the
Free account. So I did.
I now have an account with a slightly different name gannelrat.com. And am trying to customise Iconic one. Seemed the easiest.
Back to privacy! I wrote a post and it gave me the option of posting privately or publicly, so maybe that’s a new home for the options?
Thank you for your help, -
It sounds like you now have a self-hosted site with GoDaddy. The self-hosted WordPress software doesn’t have the built-in option to set the entire site to private, that’s a feature of WordPress.com. As you discovered, you do have the ability to set individual posts or pages as private or password-protected. Another option would be to look for a plugin that would make your site private.
This forum is for WordPress.com help, but there’s a whole other set of support forums for self-hosted sites, where you can post if you need further assistance:
https://wordpress.org/support/
You’ll need a free WordPress.org account to post – if you don’t already have one, you can register here:
https://wordpress.org/support/register.php
Good luck with your new site!
