Theme Apostrophe 2 – removing page title

    Hi,
I have just upgraded from a Free Plan to Personal Plan and went about setting up my blog using the theme Apostrophe 2.
Upon clicking any one of the primary menu categories, the webpage displays what I think is called the ‘Page Title’. Obviously it affects the overall look of the page and I don not want it to appear on the page(s).
I understand from a few posts here that removal would required a bit of CSS which my wordpress personal plan does not support.
So what are my options? Upgrading is not one of them. Any and all suggestions welcome, including other themes that may not have the ‘page title’ appear and are similar to Apostrophe 2 (I like its overall simplicity and clean structure).
Here’s the link to my blog (for better understanding of my problem). https://kiranabhat.com/category/africa/
I do not want the words in grey (Category:Africa) to appear below the menu.

    Thanks in advance!

  • So that is an issue that you are likely to run into if you are using categories or tags to create topic “landing pages”. If you do not like having the tag/category title there, CSS is really your only other option.

I can’t promise that there isn’t a theme out there without the tag/category title on those pages. But those titles are fairly common in theme design.

Thank you for your reply, rootjosh.

When you say: So that is an issue that you are likely to run into if you are using categories or tags to create topic “landing pages”
does that mean there is another way to create the Primary Menu without using categories and tags?

  • Hi @kiranabhat, linking to the category is probably the best way to go about it. It’s just that when you do, many themes will announce what page they’re on. Like, “Category: Africa” as a “You are here” of sorts.

There are a few themes that are somewhat less obvious about it though, like this one:

If you want to get rid of it completely, I strongly recommend getting WordPress.com Premium. You’ll be able to hide that as well as other elements you don’t want, plus you’ll get greater control over your colors and what not.

Let us know if you need more help.
