Theme change

    Hi
I started with a theme and then found another one I preferred. Both themes are now there and I would like to just remove both and start over.
I have hardly added any content so don’t care if it’s deleted.

Can I delete the themes and contents and start again with a new theme?
    Themes are 2017 and Barnsbury.

    The site isn’t live.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Select ‘Design’ and then ‘Themes’ in the left menu after you login to wordpress.

Select the theme you would like to apply, and click activate this design on the upper middle.

A pop up will show up on how you would like to use the theme, Select in your case the option Use Stow’s homepage content and make my existing homepage a draft.

Now you should just have the basic texts that comes with the theme and you can start editing.

    Hello Judy,

You always need to have a theme of some kind. The way to get rid of the existing theme is to choose a new theme from your dashboard Themes page.

If you have a premium theme purchase in your account, you’ll need help from the staff to remove it or transfer to another account. I’ve added a modlook tag for you to get the staff’s attention.

In the meantime, could you let us know if you have another WordPress.com account that you wish to transfer the premium theme?

  • Hi @judy3205,

It’s not possible to have two different themes active so, you’re probably seeing a demo page that one of the themes left. You can delete that page if you’d like and just add a new one, created from scratch, or chosen from one of the templates.

You can also go ahead and remove all the other content and start over if that’s what you want to do:

    @shuklakartik
, I’m not sure where did you get the idea that the OP was trying to transfer the theme to another account?

    Thanks for that.
I was looking for delete but I could only find ‘delete whole site’ which said I would lose my site name if I deleted.

  • Yes, there isn’t really a one-button solution to empty your site, although I can do that for you from my end if you’d like.
I’d just need your confirmation before as the process is irreversible and it will remove everything: posts, pages, categories, comments, media files, etc. Let me know if that’s something you’d like to do.

That would be great, thank you…… as long as it doesn’t affect my blog that is also hosted by WordPress.
The instructions I read made it sound as though everything would be obliterated.

I only started creating this website a few hours ago, so there is virtually no content, I was really just trying to figure out how to use it.

So yes please, remove the site, thank you.

  • I might have not explained myself well, what I can do is empty your site from all the content. The site would still be there though. If you’d like that, just confirm the address of the site in question.

Deleting the site is never a good idea unless you want to get rid of it forever. Deleting the site will make the address unavailable so you’d never be able to create another site with the same address. Only you, as the site owner, can delete it.

So, to sump up, what I can do is to empty your site from all content so you can start from scratch. It will not remove your theme or change your settings, it will just remove all the pages, posts, etc.

    Thanks for all your suggestions.
It’s the theme that I want to remove and replace.
I have already removed the content.

The site is still in draft form, I guess I’m surprised that I can’t start again with a clean slate.

Is there any way to remove a theme and replace it?

Is there any way to remove a theme and replace it?

Yes. You just activate a different theme. But you’ll need to create some of your own content to work with to make the site look more like any theme demo.

  • Could you just confirm the site you want to empty / replace with default content, by sending a link? You have two sites on this account.

    Sorted!

Thanks everyone, it was so simple, and I complicated it by trying to get my site going before reading all the info.

I did have remnants of one theme left in another and it confused me, seeing pumpkin soup recipes where I wanted beach house pictures!

It was just a matter of choosing another theme, so thanks novic893 and fresatomica for the assistance.

Moving slower from now on, but reassured that there is help from a great group of people.

    Thanks all.

  • We’re glad you’ve got it! And know you’re welcome to add new pages and pick a theme-style template if you’d like. Then, you can edit the page and replace images as needed.

    Cheers!

I am new to all of this. I just changed to a new theme because I liked the set up and the links it had ready to go on the left. However, when I activated the theme I do not have that default page. I did email support but I did not know about these forums at the time. My site is: mylifeisaride.com Thanks for any help. I can’t believe I am having so much trouble using this site. I used to create web pages using HTML but this seems so much harder to me.

  • Hi @clippityclop123, since this is a different issue from the one in the original post, could you start a new topic here?
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

You can add a “modlook” tag if you’d like to get staff attention.

That way the people who have been working on this topic won’t get unwanted notifications as we troubleshoot your issue. Thanks!
