Hi Shirley,
Here at WordPress.com we can only use the 300ish themes that are shown in the theme gallery. You might have seen lots of other sites offering loads more themes but these are for self-hosted (you pay for someone else to host your site) WordPress.org blogs – here’s a quick explanation of the differences.
Be sure to check out the showcase which you can filter by clicking on the Find a Theme button, there are lots to choose from and hopefully this will help you find something that you like.

I would pay $20 per month for access to the old, retired, “retro”, “old-school” themes…those 80 or so super-cool ones that you summarily dismissed because they are not “responsive” or optimized for mobile.
Offer access to them for new blogs, for a monthly fee, being very clear that they are offered WITHOUT ANY help, support, debugging, etc., from the staff or community, since those old themes do not support many new WordPress themes.
Bring back Digg 3, Ocean Mist, Emire, Ambiru, Treba, etc. Retro themes rule…the hell with mobile ! [ am i the only weirdo who feels this way ? ]
I DARE you.
