Theme change question

    Hi there!

I plan to change both the name and theme of my blog soon and plan to purchase a premium theme. I have a few questions about this process:

    1. Is there a way to work on the blog over a day or two to make all the necessary updates – behind the scenes, so to speak – with the new theme before publishing while the current theme remains visible to my readers?

    2. What if I end up not liking the premium theme – are there ‘refunds’ or ‘exchanges’ on premium themes?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No. You can make the blog private but I would not do that. I just go ahead and change themes because it doesn’t take long to do do and I don’t want anyone to experience a private blog log-in box.

To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3 . See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

You can quickly and easily change themes to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do some work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme and have done any CSS editing.

Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes and browse themes until you find one you like and click “activate” or type in the name of the theme you want to use and
click the “activate” link when it appears.

After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.

Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.

We Volunteers don’t have access to them and cannot work with them in test blogs. When you purchase premium theme you get support for theme issue directly from the theme designer in the Premium Themes Forum. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/premium-themes/#premium-theme-support

Thank you so much for your quick answer. One last follow up question. Would you recommend changing theme first or changing name and doing site redirect first? I plan to do both but of course want to retain the content/comments/etc.

    thanks!

    doing site redirect first

Note: Premium Themes that are licensed for WordPress.com use only cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
