theme changing

I would like to play arround with my theme but am too scared to switch incase I want to revert back to my old solipsus – it has been updated. Is there a way to trial a theme without messing up what is currently going on?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Solipsus is “retired”. Retired means no longer available to newly created blogs, but still available to blogs created before the theme became retired. You can safely switch to a different theme then switch back to Solipsus.

Despite the fact retired the theme is not available to new users it remains available to those who have used it previously on the same blog.

Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes
browse themes until you find one you like and click “activate”
or type in the name of the theme you want to use and
click the “activate” link when it appears

After you change your theme all you need to do is go here Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets > Inactive Widgets and re-install them where you want them to appear. The widget contents and settings will be the same as they were prior to changing themes.

Wrong: it remains available to all blogs created before the theme became retired, no matter if they ever used the theme or not.

Thanks for the clarification. I’m sure it will be of great interest to theshedoc.

Thanks. Now one last thing….if it all doesn’t work and I need to go back to the old solipsus what do I do?

The very same thing I posted above.
Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes
browse themes until you find one you like and click “activate”

Cut the crap TT: the info we post here isn’t of interest to the OP only.

    re: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/can-i-use-retired-themes?replies=13

Whether being able to use a retired theme on a blog / site which was started before the theme was retired is a bug or not, it is useful for us volunteers who have been around for a while. It allows us to activate the old themes in order to test questions from long-time users.

I’d been thinking that being able to do so was related to old accounts, not to blogs. But I’ve recently started some new blogs on my long-time account and just now found I cannot activate retired themes on the new blogs, for example Solipsus.

My test blogs are 5 years old and I can still find and activate retired themes. I hope THEY don’t “fix” that bug! (if only for the sake of us volunteers who might need to experiment with the old themes in order to answer questions)

To the OP, theshedoc: you can experiment with other themes on your blog and safely return to Solipsus if you don’t find another to suit you. I would recommend that you make a private test blog to experiment with different themes. You won’t be able to use Solipsus, but if you export and import your current content to the private test blog you’ll clearly see how a different theme will work with your posts, pages, widgets, media, and all.

For other users of Solipsus who read this thread, you can certainly continue to use the theme…
