Theme Compatibility Issues/Questions

  • Unknown's avatar

I can’t get widgets to appear with my new these (Kiore Moana) even though I have tried creating an Info Page Template. I am also wondering before I get deeper into this theme–will I be able to have a recipe index as a element of my site? HELP! I’m drowning in WordPress articles. Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

It looks like you changed your theme to “On-a-Whim” and that you were able to get widgets to appear there.

I also see that you have a widget that lists an archive of your recipes by category.

    Nice work. :-)

Are you all set with things, or were you still looking to use Kiore Moana?

If you have any questions, just let me know how I can help.

Hi! I guess I’m wondering if I could make what Im doing work with Kiore Moana or am I better off with On a Whim? Also, how can I add a the most user friendly recipe index (where I could list all of my recipes and have them be live links to the actual recipe (which would be even better than a link to the entire post or no link at all)). Also, I pulled up that rooster for my header image but can’t seem to get it to crop correctly. Any advice on that? I think I am making progress but it feels like two steps forward, one steep back–I’m happy that I’ve found you!

can I bother you with two more questions?
    1. I have created Pages under one page (Want to Become a Clever Hen). The main page (Want to Become a Clever Hen) appears on my header, as I would like, but after clicking on it I was hoping I would have the opportunity to access the addition Pages under that header. Cant find them anywhere.
    2. Can I create a Tip Box on my home page? Basically a Tip of the Week widget that would allow me to input content and change on a weekly basis.

  • Hi there,

With the Kiore Moana theme, as long as you have created a page and selected the “Info Page Template” for that page, the widgets should appear on that one page.

Here is an example from the theme demo:
    http://kioremoanademo.wordpress.com/info/

Also, how can I add a the most user friendly recipe index (where I could list all of my recipes and have them be live links to the actual recipe (which would be even better than a link to the entire post or no link at all))

So, as all of the recipes are contained within the posts, there wouldn’t be a way to create a list of recipes by themselves.

However, if you would like to add links to the recipe categories in your menu, that would give visitors another easy path to access to the recipes:

Also, I pulled up that rooster for my header image but can’t seem to get it to crop correctly.

The ideal dimensions for the logo are 80px by 80px. As long as the rooster is in the center of an image that size, it should fall within the center of that circle.

You may need to adjust it within a photo editing program to get the rooster in the center without being too close to the edges of the picture.

I have created Pages under one page (Want to Become a Clever Hen). The main page (Want to Become a Clever Hen) appears on my header, as I would like, but after clicking on it I was hoping I would have the opportunity to access the addition Pages under that header.

The best way to allow people to access the associated sub pages would be to add them as a drop down menu by using the custom menus feature:

Can I create a Tip Box on my home page? Basically a Tip of the Week widget that would allow me to input content and change on a weekly basis.

Absolutely. I’d recommend the text widget for that:

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for all of this helpful info.
Still trying to create a recipe index and understand that the link will be to my post, as opposed to my recipe since all of my recipes are included within my posts.
    Two questions:
    1. Can I create an index (on a page?) that would read something like this:
    Vegetable Dishes
    Brussels Sprouts
–Roasted with Apples and Red Onion
    –Sauteed, Asian
    Edamame
    –Sauteed
    Desserts
    –DeeDee’s Brownies
And have each of those –items, be clickable to the actual post where the recipe was posted on my blog?

    2. Moving forward, should I write my post and then make my recipe a link to click and write the actual recipe as a new page? new post? some other thing?

    THANK YOU!

  • Hello!

Can I create an index (on a page?) that would read something like this:

Yep, you could certainly do this.

First, type the list of items on a page. From there, use the links feature to create a link from each item to each post.

Moving forward, should I write my post and then make my recipe a link to click and write the actual recipe as a new page? new post? some other thing?

If you’d find it more useful to have posts that only contain the recipe, then separating the recipes from the other posts would be ideal. I say go for it. :-)

If you need anything else, just let me know!

What program do you suggest I use for the recipes? I can’t seem to access any Plug-ins from my dashboard. Do you know why? Or where they might be? All of the recipe programs I have found are Plug-Ins.
Thank you! You are my lifeline:)

  • Hello again,

I’d recommend using our Recipes shortcode for the best results:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/recipes/

If you have any questions about it, feel free to let me know.

  • Unknown's avatar

That shortcode gives me a box around my recipe which is nice but it does not allow me to isolate the recipe from the post in a way that enables the user to print only the recipe (rather than the whole post). And search results yield the whole post rather than just the recipe.

Can you help me meet those above needs?

And as far as the index page–I understand that I should write all the recipe titles and add links to the recipes (once I get that recipe program set). But, is there an Index Template that I can use that will set the page up with columns (maybe three across) and make it look like an actual index?

And I am still looking for my Plug-Ins! :) Can you help me here.

Sorry that I need such specifics for every step along the way. I’m crawling but getting there and I appreciate your help.

  • Hi there,

That shortcode gives me a box around my recipe which is nice but it does not allow me to isolate the recipe from the post in a way that enables the user to print only the recipe (rather than the whole post). And search results yield the whole post rather than just the recipe.

So, you would want to make a separate post containing only the recipe. You would then have an additional post just to talk about the dish itself.

But, is there an Index Template that I can use that will set the page up with columns (maybe three across) and make it look like an actual index?

There isn’t a page template that does this, however, you could achieve this using CSS.
