Theme Cubic – Create child Theme and adjust layout and fonts via CSS

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I had activated the theme CUBIC for my WordPress site, but the size of the image and fonts for creating POST are not quite fit me. Therefore, I was trying to create a Theme-child folder but I was not able to locate the Cubic Theme folder under wp-contentthemes.

Does anyone ever created the theme-child folder for CUBIC Theme?

Also If I want to adjust the image size or layout of the POST page using CSS, is there any document online for the CUBIC Theme that show the elements?

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi! if you have a bussiness account, you can do it this way: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

But if you don’t have tthis account, you won’t be able to upload a custom theme.

If you need more information, can check this link: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/

    Hi Franfernandz

Before editing or uploading a customized theme, I want to locate the theme folder in my WP site, so I can create a theme-child. I’ve checked the folders wp-contentthemes, but there are only 3 folders “twentyfifiteen, twentysixiteen & twentyseventeen”, did not see a any CUBIC folder in there.

    THanks

    Oh, I see.
To use a child theme you have to install the parent first.

So, in your ‘wp-contentthemes’ folder you neeed to have ‘wp-contentthemesCUBIC’ and then ‘wp-contentthemesyour-child-theme’.
The you can activate your child theme and it’s going to work.

    Hi Franfernandz

I’m kind of new to WP, do you mind to elaborate more in detail how I can install the parent?

I have already activated the Theme Cubic, but did not see the parent folder being created under wp-contentthemes.

    Thanks

Did you upload your child theme and activated it?

    Hi @nedcor42002,

Do you have a site on a Business Plan here at WordPress.com, or are you attempting to do this on a site hosted somewhere else?

    Hi garysixtyeight

I have a site with Business plan and hosted in WordPress.com. And I activate the CUBIC theme within WP.

    Thanks

Thanks for the URL. It appears that the site is hosted by wordpress.COM and that you have a Business plan upgrade. garysixtyeight will be able to help you out.

What I really want to do is to edit the layout/fonts/Image size of the POST page. Somehow the page editor that I’m using (Visual Composer) allows me to perform some CSS setting under “Page Setting” when compose/edit the POST page.
I just need to know the CSS elements of the CUBIC theme in order to add to this section.

    Thanks

As far I can see, you’re not trying to do a child theme but you want to edit your actual theme.

If it’s how I think, you haven’t chosen the easiest one to edit (:P), but you can try looking at the style.css file, where you’ll have the content divided into sections.
I.e: section 2 is typography, 3 is layout and 5 is content.
You can do it in the editor you have in your admin panel.

  • You do not need to create a child theme to make CSS adjustments.

It will be much easier to add your custom CSS to the Customizer’s CSS panel instead of editing theme files directly.

I took a look at your site at https://blingazine.com/ and the posts look stretched out and distorted on the homepage.

I would suggest you reactivate Cubic, and let’s start to work on your CSS there, to get it looking how you want.

Please let me know specifically what you’d like to change so I can better assist you.

    Nandz –

You can do it in the editor you have in your admin panel.

Please don’t ever advise users to edit their theme files. All changes will be wiped out when the theme is updated. Custom CSS should be added either in the Customizer’s CSS panel, or if changes beyond just CSS are needed, a child theme is the correct way to make them.

    @kathrynwp

I’m sorry for that. You’re right.
I’ll be more careful next time to avoid confusion.

Thank you for warning me. :)

  • Nandz – no worries!

    Hi Kathrynwp
I had tried to reactive CUBIC theme by

    1. selecting another theme and activate it.
    2. Switch back to CUBIC theme and activate it.

but the POST featured image at the front page are still the same.

I even tried to download the CUBIC theme to my pc and upload to WP site again, but it said the folder already exist and preventing me uploading it.

I do not have a tool or plugin to view all the files / folder on my WP site (Really appreciate if you can suggest me one), so I can’t delete the existing CUBIC folder at all.

    Thanks

    Jack
