Theme does not allow for extra widgets or an option for plugins? What happened
-
The theme I am using under the free wordpress.com does not provide me that access to add more widgets and does not provide any plugins. Why is that?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am going to be importing the website over to Blue Host once completed, will I get my option for Plugins and more widgets to install once that happens, or has wordpress put a restriction on what you can add to specific themes? I have the option under my registered domain and wordpress blog that I use for my domain and it has install additional widgets and a plugins option. Thank you for any help you can provide.

WordPress.com blogs do not allow FTP access, plugins or custom themes. There is no upgrade that can change this and having a custom domain also makes no difference as your site will still be run using the wordpress.com software. This is because all our blogs are essentially running off the same software and one person uploading a corrupt plugin can bring the whole system down. More info here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/If you want to make use of plugins and custom themes you will need to download the wordpress.ORG software (which is completely separate and different from the free wordpress.COM system) and arrange for your own hosting and everything. You can get more information on the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

You’ll have to check the wordpress.org support pages (http://codex.wordpress.org/) for information on downloading and installing the software and getting it hosted on your own domain. Note that there’s also a different support forum for wordpress.org sites (http://wordpress.org/support/). That’s where you must go for advice on that platform as this forum can only assist you with wordpress.com blogs.
As for transferring your content from wp.com to wp.org, you can see this support doc: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

Thank you, we are in the process of getting our 3 domains released from Go Daddy and using Blue host and they have domain transfers available, you know I should have thought of that because when I started out my website before I transferred it over to Blue host, I was using wordpress.org, what an idiot I am. I am a webmaster and forgot. duh.

Actually, I used .com when I imported to Blue Host, it automatically provided me all the plugins and widgets, so we will see what happens with we complete the domain transfers and then import from another site since blue host and WordPress are partners, not going to pay 129 dollars to have wordpress take care of it when blue host can do it for me. :) I went from cecilcalvert.wordpress.com to http://www.cecilcalvert.com when I imported to blue host and it provided me with all the widgets and plugins, if it does not happen this time, then I will have to come up with something else to fix the issue, damn i feel stupid.
