Theme Does Not Update/Change

I have been trying for hours to sort this issue out, creating and deleting sites out of frustration in the process.
When I create a free site it defaults my theme the one with the peacock. When I change/activate any new theme none of the new theme shows up. I see that the new theme is the “active” theme but nothing of it shows up.
I have repeatedly logged out/in, cleared cookies/cache, used the app, used different devices – iPhone 13 pro, IPad Pro, MacBook Pro – all to no avail.
At one point the editing screen did manage to change – to nothing but few “blank” areas with the pencil icon for editing. Nothing of the template with the images/areas that show in the demo of the template.
Any ideas?

Hi, thank you for replying. I don’t need help with theme selection. I have already selected my theme.
The problem is when I activate the theme I want the content of it does not appear for me to customize. No matter which way I try to access customizing/editing it. None of the theme content is there. All that is there is the default WordPress theme.
