Theme, editing, child themes, any danger if theme no longer available, swit?
-
Hi. I am working on a site that is using the Classica theme, one that is no longer available. If we continue to use this theme, is there any danger? Meaning, could we later run into trouble affecting the site and continued use of it? Also, I know that it is advised to make a child theme. I honestly do not recall the reason why that was… It may have been around updates. Those updates will not happen clearly. Now, if we make updates in the theme’s files for customizations, is there any danger involved around losing those when we later switch to a different theme, or anything? Would we face the same danger if we change to a different theme regardless? How does that work?

Hey there,
Now, if we make updates in the theme’s files for customizations, is there any danger involved around losing those when we later switch to a different theme, or anything? Would we face the same danger if we change to a different theme regardless?
Any changes you make to the theme you have will be lost when you choose a different theme or update the theme you’re on, so generally I’d recommend against direct edits.
Also, can you clarify which website you’re struggling with, or send a link to the page that gives you that error?
These forums are for the sites hosted and managed here at WordPress.com, vs. sites using WordPress code with another host. If you’re not sure about your site, send a link, and we can point you in the right direction.
