Theme extras
-
I have noticed in some themes the latest posts are indicated with a marker of some type such as “new”, “latest” and I would like to know if that is one of the theme’s options or is it one that can be made for any theme using a widget?
Just off the top of my head I know the theme “Fandastic” has the “new” marker.
Thanks :)

Sorry, here is a website that I saw and am asking about
http://socalmuchacha.wordpress.com/ If you notice the little “new” tag on the latest post and also about half way down there is a header “Recently on if I only knew then” where te topics of the latest posts are listed. This is what I’d like to try and do on my site if it is possible, at least something like that. My theme is “Garland”.
Thanks :))

if you have the custom CSS upgrade, you could add an image to the top right of
.node
otherwise, no, the only themes that have “new” markers are fadtastic and emire. -
Thanks I was afraid of that. Now I know you can download wordpress program and then download a theme but need to find a web host either one that charges or wordpress.com. If one downloads that wordpress and then chooses one of the themes to download can you use that theme on wordpress.com like they say or do you have to use one of the provided themes from wordpress.com.
I hope that makes sense. http://wordpress.org/ is where I was looking.

Oh I tried using my “more” tag but when I clicked on preview it did not show anything at all so I’m confused as to how to use that. I’m sorry, I’m still learning and trying to do as much as I can on my own but I finally give up and then ask..

To use one of the downloaded themes, you need to be with a separate host. You can always send in theme requests to staff here through your dashboard, including why you’d like to see that theme recoded and added to WP.com.
I think I read at some point that the affect of the more tag only shows up after you publish the post. If you give me a couple minutes I’ll check on my test blog.

OK. When you preview it looks like the more tag isn’t working. But when I published it, everything was correctly displayed as I had entered it in the editor.
I and just noticed there are more options now in the visual editor….

Thanks, I’m sorry I’m late in responding but am going to go give it a try now. I really appreciate your help..

@flagranny2
I agree with katm. Although the “more tag” break will not be visible in “preview” mode it will be there when you publish the post.
