Theme for video songs blog

    I have a self-hosted songs blog in which YouTube video links are inserted in all posts. I want to transfer my blog to WordPress.com.

    I’m looking for a theme which shows video thumbnail as featured image in homepage, excerpt, and archive view. I’ve tried many free and premium themes so far but with no success. This is very frustrating.

    Hi there! There isn’t currently a way to use a video URL and set it as the featured image automatically on WordPress.com. While your YouTube links can embed into your posts/pages nicely, you would need to add an image to your Featured Image area separately.

    As for videos on the archives page, the Pinboard theme does that, so it may be worth checking out to see if it fits your needs relatively well: https://pinboarddemo.wordpress.com/category/videos/

    I’m not sure of your current setup on your self-hosted WorddPress site, but I believe there are plugins that function the way you’ve described (and maybe you’re using one), so if that’s a necessity you may want to stick with self-hosted for now.

    Pinboard didn’t impress me much. I’m a great fan of Outspoken theme and use it on 2 of my blogs here. I am using it also on my self-hosted songs blog but yes I use it with a thumbnail creator plugin which automatically creates a featured image from the video link.

    My video blog has more than 2500 posts. I can’t manually create a thumbnail as featured image. Sometimes links go bad and a plugin takes care of those issues. A theme with built-in video thumbnail/featured image creator is desperately in demand.

    Pleas please please give us some more freedom and options here… some more paid upgrades to work things out well. I’m here for more than 6 years and know how expensive and challenging it is to run a site on our own… in contrast to my WordPress.com blogs that require a fraction of resources… albeit with limitations, for me this (video image) is the biggest issue at the moment.
