Theme gone… cache not the issue

  • Unknown's avatar

My blog looks fine if I am not signed into it. When I sign in, my theme is gone. I have cleared my cache, I have restarted my pc, and I have the same problem in firefox or IE.

I have my header, nothing else but white background and articles with none of the links in the right place.

It started this about a month ago. I have tried clearing cache over and over and sometimes it is fine for a few days, then this problem again.

    Any help?

    Thanks

How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com?
    Are you using a mobile?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am connecting as I have for over a year, via my dsl connection.

Could you test these links and let us know if you can access them? What you should see is a bunch of text (CSS actually). If you can access some, but not all, let us know which you cannot access.

Yes, and I am not sure if CSS is this, but this is basically what each of those looked like when I opened them:

    body{font-size:62.5%;font-family:’Lucida Grande’, Verdana, Arial, Sans-Serif;background:#d5d6d7 url(‘images/kubrickbgcolor.jpg’);color:#333;text-align:center;}#page{background-color:white;border:1px solid #959596;text-align:left;}#header{background:#73a0c5 url(‘images/kubrickheader.jpg’) no-repeat bottom center;}#headerimg{margin:7px 9px 0;height:192px;width:740px;}#content{font-size:1.2em;}.widecolumn .entry p{font-size:1.05em;}.narrowcolumn .entry, .widecolumn .entry{line-height:1.4em;}.widecolumn{line-height:1.6em;}.narrowcolumn .postmetadata{text-align:center;}.thread-alt{background-color:#f8f8f8;}.thread-even{background-color:white;}.depth-1{border-top:1px solid #ddd;border-bottom:1px solid #ddd;}.children .even, .children .alt{border:0;border-left:1px solid #ddd;}

Are you using the http version of the dashboard or the https version?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hmmm, I don’t know. I haven’t changed anything and yet if I use my unifiedserenity.wordpress.com page the theme is gone. If I click a link the theme is there.

How do I tell that version?

  • Unknown's avatar

When you’re looking at the page with the theme gone, look in the browser bar where the URL is. Does the link start with http or https?

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s funny, there is neither http or https, so i copied my link to my home page and pasted it. It appears to be http.

Now, here is something very odd. My home pages in now showing the theme. I have dealt with this issue for months now where everything is find, then suddenly the theme is gone, and this time it was about a week.

I did absolutely nothing to make this change.

Why would my page change like this just on my computer?

  • Unknown's avatar

Usually when the Theme “disappears” it is due to the CSS not being read so your PC does not know how to style how anything looks

so,based on my previous answer reading those 3 links, was my pc reading the css?

It just looked like computer language to me, not a webpage per-say.

reading those 3 links, was my pc reading the css?

    Correct

Sometimes an ISP or a company network will block the CSS for some reason. CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) is not a “web page” but it is the instructions on how to make the page you see display what is wanted. Things in the CSS are Fonts, Font sizes, weights, spacing in etc.

You might ask your ISP is they have an issue of any kind with the CSS files, I don’t know if a browser add in would block some of the CSS or not.

Do you have any idea why it suddenly works or does not work? I even updated firefox and it did not need it to see if that would fix it. Had the same issue in IE.

Just trying to figure out why my home page won’t read suddenly if I am signed in and yet others see it correctly as do I if I log out.

Now it reads, but if the pattern continues then sometime in the next few days it will disappear again.

EIther your ISP is blocking something, or your browser is not fully loading the page due to connection issues. I sometimes run into this myself when I am on a very slow connection (or when there are others sharing the same connection).

Do you run into this issue with other sites on WordPress.com or elsewhere on the internet?
