What kind of edit do you want to make? Some tweaks can be made with CSS, for example you can add a copyright line above the credit with this:
.site-info::before { color: #ffffff; content: "Ⓒ My Copyright"; display: block; }Theme files can’t be edited directly on WordPress.com, but CSS overrides can work for many tweaks.

There is not Editor option on WordPress.com themes.
See about the footer credits:May I remove credit links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com’, theme, font, or toolbar links?
All WordPress.com users are required to maintain the credit links, even our VIP bloggers. Please do not hide or alter text or links for the footer credits or the toolbar. Modifying the style of the footer text (i.e. colors and font size) is fine as long as it’s still readable. -

I want to add the copyright sign and the website i am using the theme on.
I gave you the CSS for adding a copyright notice just above – try adding it to your CSS editor, editing the wording as you like, and let me know if you run into any problems.
galois – greetings!

thanks for the help,
i did use the css style you gave and it worked, but i also want the “Blog at wordpress” “the gateway theme” taken off and replace with “copyright (c) 2016 | Hair Arena (with the “hair arena” hyperlinked to http://www.hairarena.com.ng
How do i do this please

As Galois mentioned earlier, all WordPress.com sites must keep the footer credit. It’s not permitted to remove it or alter it so that it’s not readable.
(with the “hair arena” hyperlinked to http://www.hairarena.com.ng
It’s not possible to put a link in CSS.
You might want to consider adding the credit to a footer text widget, instead. Something like:
<p>copyright (c) 2016 | <a href="http://www.hairarena.com.ng">Hair Arena</a> -
how do i also use a theme i paid but did not use on my current website, i bought a theme but i am using a free theme and i want to use my paid for theme without having to buy again

I see a purchase of the theme Mood on this account. If you find the theme in your site’s dashboard, under Themes, you should be able to activate it at no charge.
