I’ve just selected this theme:
https://gatewaydemo.wordpress.com/I am customizing it to my needs, and have had no problems, UNTIL…
I cannot figure out how to get my home page image to be BIG, like the one featured on the demo! Isnt that the header image!?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have you consulted the detailed theme description page at https://wordpress.com/themes/gateway ?
-
thank you for your quick reply!
I had not seen that description page.
I just read through it, and I’ve applied those settings. The feature image seems to appear at the top now, but still does not expand beyond the default “header size”. :(
What am I missing?

Hi there, on https://wordpress.com/theme/gateway , go to the section that talks about Homepage Template, and use those instructions.
That’s the missing link here: you’re using the standard template, so it shows a standard header size.
-
I understand what you’re referring to, and I have double-checked to ensure that the “Homepage” template IS activated on that page, and a feature image is in place, in the editing screen. But, as soon as I save & publish, and return to view the page, the featured image is appearing in full resolution across the width of the page, but is cut short by the standard header parameters.

Ah I see, okay. You don’t have a header or tagline or title showing on the site, so that header space is collapsing down to something shorter.
I recommend setting a title and tagline; you can choose whether to display them or not.
You could also upload a logo and put extra space around the image. Want to give that a try?
-
I have played with this for almost an hour. {so frustrating} :(
I even made the logo big, to try to expand the space….
It just compresses the logo image.
I just dont get it. -
well…….I’ve “rigged” a workaround, by placing a ton of html coding
etc.
etc.without any actual text.
-smh-odd solution, but gets the job done.

Hi @byrnesmillfarmsmhc, I see you’ve taken out the HTML and added a logo to help fill the space. You could also move other aspects of the header to that HTML area, then use a bit of inline CSS to control it. For example:
<div style="font-size: 2.5em; padding-top: 100px">Byrnes Mill Farms MHC</div>I hope that helps a bit. Good luck!
