Theme in editor different to theme on site
-
Hi, the theme on my website (the desired theme) is different to the theme in my editor (not the desired theme) therefore I can’t edit it to make the site appear how I want it to. Any ideas?

Hi there,
Have you tried the Customiser? You can get to it by going to My Site > Design > Customise. The page/post editor doesn’t look much like the actual web page, that’s how it’s meant to be, but the Customiser looks like the website actually will do. You can also preview pages directly from the editor by clicking on the ‘Preview’ button in the top right-hand corner.
I hope this helps! If this doesn’t work or you still have questions, be sure to ask :) sharing the URL of your site may also help.

Hi! Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Here’s the URL to my site.

I want to be able to add images into the squares that contain the blog post, like the example theme, but I can’t do this simply via the customiser. Is this something I would be able to do?

Hi again @jamesgolfwilson,
add images into the squares that contain the blog post
I think you mean to have an image next to the blog post? For that, you’d need a Featured Image.
To set a Featured Image, go to the post you want to add it to at My Site > Site > Posts, open the editor, open the Document Settings (the cog/gear symbol in the top right-hand corner), find Featured Image and upload the image you want.
https://wordpress.com/support/featured-images/
If this option isn’t appearing for you, you may be using a theme that doesn’t have the option to add Featured Images. If this is the case, please tell us the name of the theme you’re using and I’ll be able to double-check. Or check yourself by searching for your theme at https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/featured-images. -
Thats it sorted, thank you so much! I definitely should have figured that out myself but I really appreciate the help!

Glad I could help :) Don’t worry, I struggled with featured images when I was starting out, too :) Be sure to ask if you have any more questions, and happy blogging!
