Theme Intergalactic 2 – "Subscribe" button close to invisible in footer

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey WordPress community & support team,

I have just started my new blog (first time) and selected the cool looking theme Intergalactic 2.

But unfortunately I am having a few issues here I would like to get help for. Hope you have some good ideas or can fix this centrally in the theme core…?

I have added the “subscribe” widget to my blog’s footer. But the button is close to invisible, as the button’s colour is black and the background is black as well and the button just has a tiny frame in grey. People simply miss it too easily the way the colours currently are made.

Is there any chance to be able to modify the background colour of the footer? Or the button colour?

Looking forward to your response. Thanks in advance!

    Best regards
    Daniel

PS: My site and localization is in “German”, so the subscribe button is named “Abonnieren” – just that you find it… :-)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    One additional topic:

After someone has entered the mail address and clicked on “Subscribe” they get a German confirmation message which is irritating, because there seems to be some text missing in between. (My site and localization is in “German”, so the subscribe button is named “Abonnieren” – just that you find it… :-) )
It looks like this – a blank part in between
I found out that there is text in this blank part of the message (“kontaktiere uns”), but it is white colour on white background, so you may just be able to read it when marking it. It links to https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
So I guess it wants to say that if you haven’t received the subscribe confirmation mail you shall contact the wordpress support.

Is there any chance that you can change the colour of this invisible text part to make it visible?

  • Ah thank you. I’ve noted these bugs with our theme team.

It seems the issue stems from a problem with the way the theme calculates contrast from your light background color. As fix for now, would you consider picking a darker background color?

    Many thanks, supernovia.

Can you please explain to me how I may chance the background color? Up to now I did not find this Option unfortunately. (I am on the free WordPress account.)

Typo: Not „chance“ but „change“ the background color…

  • You can do that in the Customizer:

    https://klimaschutzjetzt.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php

Just click on “colors & backgrounds”

Thanks, rootjosh, but in this theme this setting does not change the color of header and footer. It just changes the color of the main part of the page. The header and footer unfortunately remain black and I haven’t found an option to change the color of header and footer.

As for the header I may just replace the black color with a picture. This did not work well for me as it lead to a great increase of the space required for the header. On a mobile device the screen then was full with just the header. So not an option either…

  • Hi there,

…in this theme this setting does not change the color of header and footer. It just changes the color of the main part of the page.

That is correct. The way this theme is designed the color for those is set in the source code and there is not a “setting” to change them.

It is possible to make targeted changes like that, but to do so you will need to upgrade to our WordPress.com Premium Plan. The premium plan includes a “CSS editor” that can be used to override the theme source code and set your own custom colors. Learn more about our WordPress.com Premium Plan here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Once you have upgraded, let us know and we can help with the code necessary to change the header from black to some other color, thanks!
