Theme Issues
-
I have used a particular theme to build my blog into more of a site ( http://daltonlifse.com ). I used the theme “chaotic soul.” I found another theme that might suit me better. I did the “preview” option but would like to experiment more. BUT I don’t want to lose what I’ve done on my site now.
So my question is, can I go experiment on the other one and switch back to my other one if I don’t like it? That is, is there a “restore blog” setting to restore it to the day before I changed it?
And if not, what are my options? It would be a shame to lose my work so far by switching to a theme I’m not that stoked on later.
THANKS!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you are talking about CSS modifications, they are theme specific so it will actually mess up the other theme.
What you can do is copy out your CSS modifications and paste them into a plain text file, save it, and then delete the stuff from the CSS window and then make sure “add to existing stylesheet… ” is selected and click save changes. That will return things to the original state and then you can switch themes and play with the other one.

I kind of understand but I kind of don’t. I appreciate your help sacredpath. You’re very clear; I’m just not very acquainted with these things. CSS is an unfamiliar term to me so I’m trying to learn now as I go.
Where do I find my CSS modifications? Is that the notepad file that opens up with about a paragraph of scribble on it? If so, are you saying that I can save that and then paste it back into there if I want to switch back to me old theme (now present theme)?
Or am I hearing you wrong?
Thanks bro.

From looking at your source code and your CSS I don’t think you have the CSS upgrade, especially given your response above.
You can switch themes anytime you want and the only time things will require any extra work is if you are going to a theme with less columns (4 to 3 or 3 to 2). In those cases, you need to save any stuff you put into text widgets or RSS widgets and put it into a text file so that you don’t lose that information. You then recreate the stuff in like widgets when you switch themes. Going up in columns (2 to 3 or 4, or 3 to 4) will not cause any problems.
If you switch to another theme you will have to redo and re-upload your custom header since virtually all themes have different sized headers.
If you are going from a 2 column to another 2 column, there will be nothing you will have to do (except the header thing I mentioned above).

Sometimes going from a theme with a really wide column to a narrower one can mean your images and files are too wide for the space, in which case one of the sidebars may drop to the bottom.
