Theme Layout
-
I am very new at wordpress and just bought the Janice theme but my overall layout does not look like the demo. It’s just an infinite scroll, the images are not set up like they are on the demo. I’d like to be able to have my audience click ‘read more’, and get the look and feel of the theme. I am able to customize colors, fonts etc, but not the look. How do I achieve this?

We have to set up themes so they appear the way they do on the live demo sites. There are set up instructions for every theme like these https://wordpress.com/themes/janice/
The live demo site is here https://janicedemo.wordpress.com/
The theme specific support doc is here https://wordpress.com/themes/janice/support/

Any customizations beyond those provided by the theme and activated through the customizer require an annually renewable upgrade.
See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable Premium bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ that contains a custom design upgrade required for CSS editing: Custom design – Frequently Asked Questions

You can also post there prior to purchasing an upgrade to get an answer to whether or not what you want to do can be accomplished via CSS editing.

I am not purchasing the premium. My blog should look like the theme I purchase, that should be a given. I’ve done a lot of the steps you’ve posted and currently setting up my feature images, however, they don’t post to the side like they are in the demo. This ‘look’ is what I am looking to achieve.

I’ve answered questions here for nearly 10 years now and I’m not clear on whether or not you understood what I stated. We all have to use the set-up instructions on the detailed theme description pages.
Janice offers a variety of post layouts for composing your front page. Posts adapt according to shape and orientation of the Featured Image https://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/ you set — portrait, landscape, or square — changing the layout to provide the a great fit that highlights both your words and image. From https://wordpress.com/themes/janice/at “Flexible Layouts”.
Featured Images are 900 wide, with a suggested minimum height of 450.

I am not purchasing the premium.
There is no free version of the Janice theme. It is a premium ie. a paid theme Are you clear on that?
-
I have paid for Janice. I don’t know how much more I need to pay, hence my comment on paying for ‘premium’.
Maybe I don’t get it. To be more specific, I don’t know how to set the featured images to portrait, landscape or square. I can just set them up as featured images, and that’s where my expertise ends. Also, beyond that, I don’t know how to set up one featured image to the left of my page, and the other to the right, for example. This is how it looks like on the demo.
I hope I am clear now.

If you purchased the WordPress.COM theme version of Janice, then please use the link I provided above to get theme support.

Hi @pickymunch, from the theme documentation:
Posts adapt according to shape and orientation of the Featured Image you set — portrait, landscape, or square — changing the layout to provide the a great fit that highlights both your words and image.
So basically this means you’ll see a different “shape” of post depending on the shape of the image you uploaded and set as featured. So if you upload (and set) a square image, you’ll get a different layout than you would with a portrait image (one that is taller than it is wide) or landscape image (one that is wider than it is tall.)
Since all of your images on this so far are landscape style (rectangles that are wider than they are tall) they all are laying out the same.
What are you using to take your photos? Do you have a crop tool you can use before uploading, or do you intend to crop the pictures here?

Thank you so much for this response! I JUST figured that out. I wasn’t cropping my pictures before as I was using the Cubic Theme. I have tried cropping them some in here and it has helped a ton! I’ll keep this in mind as I take pictures in the future.
Again, thank you supernovia :) -
