Theme menus

Dear siobhyb,
Thank you so much, you are very kind.
However, I am still not loving my site and frustration is beginning to get the better of me.
Therefore I was hoping, would it be possible – if I gave you access, would you be able to work your magic and stylise, modernise and sleek-up my blog?
I would be extremely appreciative and this will surely help/prevent my continual questions in the long run.
Please.
Regards

Hi Eleanor,
We don’t provide design or styling services here at WordPress.com.
I’m here to help with any technical questions that come up as you get set up. We also provide many resources to help you along the way.
There are only so many ways to tweak a theme’s overall design and, so, if you’re not loving the look of your site as a whole then I encourage you to consider whether the theme you’re using is the right one for you.
Your site also seems to have two separate purposes: 1. A personal blog. 2. A professional portfolio. Perhaps two completely separate sites would work better for you? You could then choose two different themes that works for each purpose and tweak them accordingly. A separate professional site may also help potential employers navigate to your showreel (which you mentioned was a concern.)
If you let me know the specific parts of your site that you’re unhappy with then I can offer some further suggestions and ideas.

Dear siobhyb,
I understand and the idea of 2 seperate sites is a great idea!
What themes do you recommend for my professional site?
Furthermore – when using the recipe shortcode in a post is it possible to include multiple images?Regards

Hi Eleanor,
I’m glad you like the idea of two separate sites!
What themes do you recommend for my professional site?
Sela, Goran, and Edin are three solid choices for free themes designed with professionals in mind. Sela, in particular, has a feminine and fun twist. I recommend looking over those three as a starting point!
Gateway is also one of my personal favourite themes. You also have the choice of featuring a video on its home page, as well as posts, which may work well for the type of work you want to feature.
Furthermore – when using the recipe shortcode in a post is it possible to include multiple images?
The shortcode only supports one image. If you’d like to include multiple ones on the same page, then I recommend creating and adding a gallery above or below the shortcode. You can then use an image that you particularly wish to be featured on the page within the shortcode.
Hope that helps.

Dear siobhyb,
Thanks!!
I am thinking of changing the name of my current blog as I want http://www.eleanortabone.wordpress.com to be the domain of my professional blog.
How do I do this?Eleanor
-
Hi Eleanor,
You can change your site’s address by following the step-by-step guidance here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
Please be extra careful when following the screen prompts to make sure you do not check the option of deleting eleanortabone.wordpress.com throughout the process.
Let me us know if questions come up throughout.

Dear siobhyb,
So I have exported all my data/content from eleanortabone.worpress.com.
I received the email stating this will be available for viewing in 7 days.
I wish to keep the domain eleanortabone.worpress.com for my professional site and I’m in the process of coming up with a new domain name for my lifestyle blog.
In the meantime should I delete all content from eleanortabone.worpress.com or simply move all posts to drafts and then import the content to my new site?
I hope that makes sense.
Eleanor -
Hi Eleanor,
I recommend making sure you’re all set with your new domain before deleting any content.
The export file should have been created within an hour after following these steps, the process should not take as long as seven days. Have you received your file yet?
You should created your new site by following the screen prompts here after you have the export file:
I’m here to help if any questions come up as you go through that process.

Dear siobhyb,
Is it possible to create my site without a domain name?
I am still unsure what I should call it.Regards
Eleanor Tabone -
Hi Eleanor,
Each site needs to have a site address associated with it to enable access for others.
Perhaps you could think of a few key words that fit in with what your site’s going to be about and work from there? The site address can also be changed at a later date and doesn’t cost anything.

Hi there!
I have taken a new approach and have decided to keep my site name as ‘Eleanor Tabone’ – I don’t want to fall into that niche of food/health bloggers.
Therefore I feel as though my site is very higgled-piggledy, I want my homepage to be categorised into sections but done so in an interactive form. Something that is inviting but still readable.
Speak soon

Hi Eleanor,
It sounds like you have a good vision planned for your site! If you have questions while getting set up, please feel free to start a new thread on this forum.

Dear Siobhyb,
I am after a theme that is simple but interactive and engaging.
One with a homepage that enable me to have my categories (books, food reviews, recipes etc) displayed in an interactive ‘slider’ of sorts…
Does that make sense?Regards
Eleanor -
Dear Siobhyb,
I like the idea of a static front page.
I want to have sections readers can choose from – making the site much more simple.
I want a columns or boxes that categorise my menus. Then by clicking on that readers are taken to say all the book reviews or all the restaurant reviews etc.
Does that make sense?
Regards
Eleanor -
Dear Siobhyb,
Sorry but I have another question.
Is it possible to move posts in categories to a new page which I can have on my static homepage?Eleanor
-
You could certainly create a static page on which you could manually link to your category archives, and then set that static page as your homepage. Here’s a guide to creating a static front page:
Displaying the links to your category archives as boxes or columns would take some custom CSS. If you need help with it, feel free to post in the CSS Customization forum.

Dear kathrynwp,
I am really confused with CCS and need some serious help.
I would be grateful for some assistance!Eleanor

Hi Eleanor,
I’ve gone ahead to address your questions over here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/static-front-page-with-css
Let’s keep the conversation on this over there as it’s a lot easier for us to help out if separate questions are kept to separate threads.
Thanks!
