theme mis-match between two WP sites
-
HI there, i have two WP sites, one hosted with netsol.com and one here at wp.
i have the exact same theme installed on both (i want to leave netsol and be hosted by wp only) but I find that the theme (triton lite) is almost 90% different here at WP. where it lacks almost all of the functions/features that are available on the netsol.com hosted site.why would there be a difference ?
here the site is: asylumimages.worldpress.com
and the netsol is: http://www.asylumimages.comon the netsol, all features work , sliders , lightboxes etc… but here on
wp.. they don’t.Thoughts please, so i can decide if i bring my site over to WP or not.
Yanni.

Hi Yanni,
The themes that are available for your WordPress.com site are customized for use here at WordPress.com, so they will be somewhat different from themes you find for your self-hosted WordPress.org site.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
You can find an explanation of the Triton Lite theme features, including instructions for using them on your WordPress.com site, here: Triton Lite Theme
This theme does include a slider and a number of other features. If you have any other questions about using this theme here at WordPress.com, please let me know!

HI,
Thanks for the great response :)
Although the theme says it has a slider etc, once installed on my asylumimages.wordpress.com site it’s not available, along with other options also.
So it is a bit confusing, cause I like wordpress.com hosting as there are “subscribe/follow” type widgets available, that are not on the self hosted ones…
I’m not technically great, so thought this would be a good option.
Not exactly sure what wordpress.org has to do with it though, as I dont think i’ve ever used it?

The slider in Triton Lite appears when you create at least one sticky post with a featured image that is at least 950 pixels in width and 270 pixels in height. If you would like more help with this, please let me know.
What other options are you looking for in this theme? I would be happy to help you figure out if they are available here at WordPress.com.

If you have a site using WordPress with a host other than WordPress.com (such as Network Solutions, netsol.com), that site uses the self-hosted WordPress.org software. You can read more about that here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
Please let me know if you have any other questions. :)

HI thanks so much for being so kind, but I think I’m suffering from stupidness.. I can’t for the life of me see where to create a “sticky” post.. normal posts, sure.. but no options for “sticky” … featured image i see is to the right of most new posts options.. so i think i have that part sorted.
any assistance would be greatly appreciated :)
lightbox still doesnt seem to work though..

Sorry about that! For some reason my link to the page about sticky posts didn’t work. You can read more about how to create sticky posts here:
The option to make a post sticky is in the Publish module in your post editor. Next to where it says “Visibility: Public” you can click the Edit link. Then, check the box next to “Stick this post to the front page” to make it a sticky post.
If you have any questions about that, please let me know!

lightbox still doesnt seem to work though..
Lightbox is not available at WordPress.com, but our image galleries offer a similar effect. You may want to take a look at our Image Gallery page for more details.

HI , thanks, ok sticky sorted, but still does not activate the slider option in the theme, just allows me to have more than 1 image stay on page 1.. sort of boring.
Image gallery, sort of voids the point of the lightbox option or even the theme in general, as the theme is designed to allow you to create/upload a post and the theme then create the lightbox.. no point creating the post with the theme, then creating yet another gallery…….

The sticky posts you create will be stuck to the top of the page, and if you create more than one they will make a slider. You may want to take a look at the Triton Lite demo site to see the effect.
If you require other features that aren’t available at WordPress.com, you may want to set up a self-hosted WordPress.org site. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org

HI, I made three. it doesn’t seem to work.
I know what it is as it’s running on my self hosted site perfectly already.. the excersize was to see why it’s not on wp.com as I wanted to transfer my sites to wp, as wp has some features I like very much as opposed to the self hosted style.Any hoo.. seems it’s not good, so no real point. thanks so much for your help though. i do appreciate your time.

Hi there,
Just to clarify, for the slider to work the sticky posts must be using a featured image that is at least 950 pixels in width and 270 pixels in height. Otherwise the slider will not be activated.
If you decide that you want to keep trying with this on WordPress.com, please let me know and I will be happy to help further.
